Jane taxed her car ... sat in the armchair whilst on her phone ... a few clicks and done.
I was thinking back to when I last had a car ... searching the house for insurance certificate and MOT certificate ... visiting a suitable post office to queue ... much more time and energy consuming.
It got me thinking that so much of modern life requires virtually no physical effort.
Is this coupled with a poor diet why there's an obesity epidemic ?

No processed food here ...browned shin beef and homemade beef bone stock in a casserole with onions, leek, celery, swede, carrots, garlic, herbs and half a pint of ale
One portion for dinner 3 portions to freeze
I eat lots of microwave meals ..... but ones I made myself from fresh ingredients

Same at our house. Cooked from fresh, some frozen. One benefit, Noreen taught "English as a second language" in the local Asian communities when I first met her, the ladies gave her recipes and lessons in how best to do them.
We are still having frozen fruit and veg from the garden last summer too.

Rog While I miss queuing up to tax a vehicle I donβt miss getting ripped off by your local motor insurance broker - Swindon, Hill House Hammond and Collonade were our local big uns, no meerkats or Tenors to let you know how much your arse was being spanked by!

My sister worked for Hill House Hammond, loss adjuster or something. I did something the other day and thought how simple and easy it was, but for the life of me I can't remember what.

Whilst some of these things (like car taxing) are admittedly easier to be able to do online at the click of a few buttons, since the tax doesn't stay with the car, buying and selling old one (which I used to do as a hobby) the punter does get screwed if a sale doesn't occur at the start of a month. The seller has it taxed and if the sale is made on 10th, THEY'VE paid up to the end of the month ) and doesn't get a refund. NOR does it transfer with the vehicle so legally, the buyer has to tax it for the whole month - including the 10 days already "gone".
Sometimes, you could pick up a banger with 11 months tax on and that used to sweeten a deal. alas, that little tickle has now gone. That said, the insurance databases that link together so you don't have to faff around looking for the cert (which is now somewhere in an email I'd have lost anyway) does make things easier.
I also realsised the other day, that an insurance policy I've been running for one of my dads old mini pickups (classic car insurance for circa 80quid a year) - THINKING it a good way to continue building a no claims discount, has been a waste of money. WHEN i ran quotes showing 8 years ncd verses "none" - there was only about 150 quid difference in it for me... ergo, by the end of my 2nd year of this policy, I'd have chucked a tenner away. I know ncd is valid for 2 yearas without a car but even having 1 year on and 2years off to save a bit, if futile if I don't buy another car for 10 years.
Modern life does make you over think things sometimes

Mini pickups are really cool.
I always wanted one of them when I was younger.

Every car I have sold recently the buyer viewed in the last few days of the month, once sale agreed I put the car on SORN and the buyer then collected it on the 1st. Easy to do online but you need to have off road parking. One buyer got tagged by ANPR on his way home π· Silly sod hadn't taxed it.
