I think we should all follow Ricco's example, retreat to living in a cave and spending the day counting our gold coins! That would be a plus for humanity. As long as the gold isn't spent of course, exchanged for some shoddily built, non essential consumer goods, whose footprints span most of the world. Anyway there's no counting, they are semi permanently fixed within a joinery project, safe from any potential prying eyes.

Surprised you haven't started tunneling operations through the back wall yet...
A second seam of gold runs from Barmouth up into the hills, and this is where the gold used for Royal wedding rings comes from.

Great suggestion. Unfortunately though the Queen is ahead of the game. She took possession of all the land 2 metres below any foundations in the locality. Smart is the Queen, greedy as well.

Yes, clear instructions are with my parents and my sisters. You're right though, it would be a hell of a find for a future generation, untold wealth while the rest of humanity that remains scrabbles around fighting each other to feed on any remaining locusts.

I have ballasted the boat with couple of tonnes of pasta and tinned mackerel. It tastes much better than gold.

changing to "green" energy etc doesn't cure the root cause, just shifts it along a generation or so.
The problem is simple, there are too many humans for the planet to support ..... end of

They could do this by means of a time-delayed lethal injection, and to allay the obvious fear and opposition this would cause, they could present it as something so beneficial that the populace would become eager to receive thir dose, while simultaneously berating anyone who has actually worked this plan out for themselves, treating them with social opprobrium.

If everybody was willing to consume less then there would be enough to go round. Good luck with that one. consuming less is the only solution, even if the population decreases, the level of consumption is still untenable.
