changing to "green" energy etc doesn't cure the root cause, just shifts it along a generation or so. The problem is simple, there are too many humans for the planet to support ..... end of I almost resisted posting but not quite: Logan's Run You might be right, what age shall we start with? Letβs say the over 65βs and see how we go from there.

At current levels of consumption. If everybody was willing to consume less then there would be enough to go round. Yeah !!! until the population increases to take up the slack made ........ Nothing will work until that problem stops being ignored and is faced squarely .... and that will happen like, never. (or at least not until it is standing room only) or somebody develops interstellar travel (and even that only pushes it down the road again)
I was working for the UN in 1975 and attended a conference on world resources and population.
A speaker explained that the population had doubled in the past 25 years to 4 billion and would double again in the next 25 if nothing was done - except that a population of 8 billion was considered unsustainable; the prediction was that a global calamity would befall us before the population reached 8 billion. Today it is 7.7billion and growing - it seems covid is not the solution so we should assume that worse is to come .... very shortly.

if Darwin is no longer allowed to operate among the higher apes then we need to replace him with an ape-made solution - like requiring folk to qualify as responsible citizens before being allowed (by law or by taxation) to reproduce.

consuming less is the only solution, even if the population decreases, the level of consumption is still untenable. The majority suck at behaving selflessly. Ah well, everything has an end.

consuming less is the only solution, even if the population decreases, the level of consumption is still untenable. Overly high population together with over consumption in the debt based capitalist system are the root causes of global warming/ climate change. They are separate to some extent but it could also be argued that they are inextricably linked. Governments are not addressing the root causes. Rather, they are going for a system of mitigation, attempting to continue with the perpetual growth model but limit damage by way 'green' innovation. A fool could see that this will be insufficient.

I am with John far to many people, maybe the worlds governments should have done nothing about covid, the clever ones would have done whats needed to stay alive the idiots would have partied until dead? In the end we could easily have lost half of the population, hopefully the worlds gene pool would have been improved job done

Today's theme: die motherfucker die. At least everyone's happy for a change. It is quite interesting how readily people suggest that other people should die.

Be careful your sounding like Greta! Maybe, I'm sympathetic to some of her opinions. Where I beg to differ is the whole 'it's all the fault of the older generations, us younger people will have to pick up the pieces' argument. Last time I looked younger people expected, by right, to travel the world for a year, having never worked a day in their lives. Rather than cook themselves they often expect others to do the job for them. Not just any food, in any surroundings, but the trendy food of the day, in a place where they wouldn't feel embarrassed 'being seen'. If you want a car it has to be brand new, nothing else will do. Clothes are often 'worn out', having only been worn once. The hypocrisy of those supporting Greta type statements, while living such lifestyles, is staggering.
