Seen this talked about over at the other place, though I would bring it into the conversation here.
I have no speakers on my pc at work so will have to watch proper tonight when I get home, from what I can see and not hear, they have a massive task ahead of them.

Lord help them, they really are green as grass. That is going to be a massive learning curve for them. I hope they manage it. I do like seeing historic boats saved .... but a double diagonal (?) hull as a first project ... it's all going to hinge on what timber it was built from ....I hope at least one of them is a bloody good carpenter

In other news I am giving serious consideration to the purchase of a boom strut to stop the bludy thing from crashing onto my head when I lower the mainsail.

I have something very much like that for use with the boom tent. This is for use when actually sailing. I had considered a topping lift, but as Andrew would say, that would be so infra-dig on a dinghy. The black thing. It is under compression when the sail is up and the kicker is strapped on (see the second image) but takes the strain of the boom when the sail is down. Neato. Also the makers claim it improves sail shape but I'm struggling with that one a bit. ETA I have only just worked out that the black string going from the mast to the top of the strut is there to put the required tension into the strut. Doh.

I did a level one RYA dinghy at Hollingworth Lake, used to go and hire. Also did l2 sailboard. Great fun, but rarely a constant steady wind on a lake high up in the Pennines.

A mk2 Wayfarer. The land-rover of sailing dinghies. I have a frickin' big genoa...and also a kite which I am too chicken to use. ETA it is frequently quite windy on the Medway!

I can imagine what these things might mean.
Is there a topgallant?
What happens if the wind stops?
"The fair breeze blew, the white foam flew, the furrow followed free; We were the first that ever burst into that silent sea.
Down dropped the breeze, the sails dropped down, 'Twas sad as sad could be; And we did speak only to break The silence of the sea!"
And I was like
'God save thee ancient mariner, from the fiends that plague thee thus! Why look'st though so?' With my crossbow I shot the Albatross.
Isn't it.
