Going back to the op (after that typical Thunderboat wandering off into the long grass) I still have yet to watch that clip in full (for some reason have appalling signal on t'internet at the moment) which is a bit annoying as I would like to see a bit more of that boat but I keep getting a whirly thing instead

I can imagine what these things might mean. Is there a topgallant? What happens if the wind stops? "The fair breeze blew, the white foam flew, the furrow followed free; We were the first that ever burst into that silent sea. Down dropped the breeze, the sails dropped down, 'Twas sad as sad could be; And we did speak only to break The silence of the sea!" And I was like 'God save thee ancient mariner, from the fiends that plague thee thus! Why look'st though so?' With my crossbow I shot the Albatross. Isn't it. Roger the cabin boy. For insolence. Got my ticket in a wayfarer.

Only time I have ever been in a sailing boat was when I had a little Twinkle 10 clinker dinghy. After about 5 minutes I decided on putting the outboard on it rather than all the faff of sailing.
It all seems a bit complicated

It all seems a bit complicated It is. But it is also without noise and smoke. You'll see just how great it is, don't worry.

I've got a very nice electric outboard I could bring along if it's smoke you are worried about.

Hmm, I wonder how long against a 5-knot tide? I am interested though.

It depends on the fineness of the boat's hull.
My dinghy won't do 5 knots but it's a bit short and full displacement.
It's an aquamot outboard not one of the Mickey Mouse trolling motor types .

The Wayfarer has a theoretical hull speed of 6 knots. Some say it will do better but they're the same crowd who say the Wayfarer will plane. Do you need to carry a firkin big battery?

No it's got a couple of quite light lithium batteries.
I don't think I should bring it along as it complicates things somewhat. I was mainly doing a joke around your "no smoke and noise" comment.

Yeah I know. Its suitability would depend a lot on how well (or badly) it might react to a dunking. Mind you I think that's true of you as well. Maybe worth a try on a day with light winds.

I don't swim or panic. I also have no fear of dying so you'll be okay with me.

I think therefore I can't thwim.
It's common for boat people not to swim.
