Tick, tick, tick.. 12 days to go, I really hope they get the work done at bridge 80 and open the shroppie up so I can head south, cant be bothered to go round and down through stoke, we now plan to hoof it back to Marston junction, ive had enough of not having the boat near to me, four months is to long not to be able to check on it.
Yes must be a bit of a pain being a distance from boat. I popped in this afternoon and started Clarence. Was lovely just to hear him run. As you say, not long now 😊
I think I will probably carry on working until lockdown is fully lifted. Any business (such as the licensed trade) which does not have the backbone to tell the Government to stick their restrictions up their arse is not going to be given any of my money. If I want to drink outdoors, I can do that on the bow deck of my boat for a third of pub prices.
Tell Government to stick restrictions up arse, open pub, lose licence, lose business, 8 staff lose jobs, we lose investment.

Twat.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but all of that is going to happen anyway. There will never be a return to how things were in the licensed trade, the habit of pub-going has been broken now and is about to enter a death spiral where the price rises needed to repay loans will make a pub visit even more expensive than it was before leading to further abandonment.
You must have noticed from the enormous amount of boarded up pubs and inns, many of which had been trading for centuries, even before the plandemic that the Government do not like pubs?

I can’t see(hope) pubs disappearing anytime soon. Most of the pubs I see that have closed in recent years were simply not very good. Decent pubs, with good beer and food will survive just fine. I will certainly be doing my bit to help them.
I cannot wait for that 1st pub pint-garden or indoors.Ellesmere has quite a few pubs for a small market town & we only went in one before the last lockdown.Bring it on !🍺🍻🍺

Hmmm. So a pub that opened in 1647 and closed in 2019 failed because it was not very good?

Quite possible a pub is only as good as it's current landlord ....... nobody cares if it was good 10 years ago, if it's crap now, it's crap now

As you know there will be various reasons that pubs close for. I was simply pointing out that there will still be lots of pubs open in the future. Most pubs I know that have closed over the last few years have in general been run into the ground. I can think of maybe half a dozen that I know have closed, only one that I can say I actually miss. The others were pretty crap really.
Lots of pubs were bought as pensions by people with money, and were adequately run by tenants. Then some enterprising individuals offered to be agents for these operations, for 5% or so of the rent, and then put management charges on top and tied supplies. Tenancies became unprofitable and impossible to sell so everyone lost; Tenants, landlords, customers. The upside is that many microbreweries saw a niche and offered something different. Coronavirus has caused a hiccup, but out of the ashes will rise a phoenix. I think we will se a return of a sociable drinking establishment along the forward looking 'Spoons, Greene king et al who will offer a selection of venues to cater for the casual drinker, the family who want to eat, and even those offering a better dining experience.
With the demise of so many high street stores it'll be a different World that emerges from the Coronageddon Cocoon we've existed in. I hope that some of the boarded up businesses will be recycled for perhaps housing to regenerate Town and City centres. I also hope pubs etc survive in some format or other....the places down here all set to open have changed, there's been a lot of alterations done to interiors but I suspect by replacing cosy with Covid safe they may well be quite sterile venues. Well we shall see, at least we've survived so far and an interesting time ahead as we all see what the new normal will consist of.

The 'New Normal' consists of doing what the Communist Party of China tells you to do.
"Boris Johnson is accused of bending the knee to China: Tories rage at PM's 'naivety' after major review urges 'deeper trade links' with Beijing despite security chiefs calling it a 'systemic' threat to the West"
"This shows the real danger of leaving the EU trading bloc and we are now having to suck up to any passing dictator or unsavoury regime."
Now that the UK is heavily in debt to China, could one say that China actually owns the country and has bought a nuclear arsenal in Europe. The British showed them how to make an Empire - lessons have been learned!

Pubs will be just fine. Life will be good again. Our kids can’t wait to get out there again. I’ve learnt from them not to get hung up with over thinking things. It’s what happens as we age, we worry to much. Good times are just around the corner. I know il be out playing on the water and roads in a couple of months. Getting drunk and hugging friends and making an ass of myself, just like before this hiccup.
naughtyfox: 'G' has changed his name to 'Tillerpin'. How sweet. I wonder if he has knitted himself some rainbow-patterned pyjamas.
