Sturgeon vs. Salmond.
A fascinating duel is taking place which should hot up even more when the wee fesh takes the stand tomorrow. Two real political heavyweights in an at arms length duel to the death, it seems. Their contempt for each other is obvious and a little strange given that they were so close in the past. I'm not suggesting he shagged her, but it wouldn't surprise me. Anyway, Salmond has very little to lose and you can see that in his almost nonchalant replies to questioning. Sturgeon seems less calm but there's no disguising that they both really hate each other. My guess is that the beg fesh will come out on top. Where that will leave Sturgeon isn't clear. Will she 'do the right thing' and resign? Or will she use her clever manipulation and ability with words to fight another day.
Anyone else following this?

All very messy, this is what happens to any political party when the remain in power too long, they become complacent and entitled and consider that their own survival is more important than the law, end justifies the means etc. (a bit like CRT) All of which is great if it loses the SNP some support. On the other hand, the great unwashed central belt electorate are fairly thick on the whole, and only interested in the football results, so I'm not holding my breath.
Not totally sure why big fish and little fish are now so at odds. I think big fish was a bit of a creep but then again he is from a different time when you didn't go to prison just for putting your hand on someone's knee. "Touchy-feely" is a capital crime these days. There does however seem to have been a conspiracy against him, but it's all coming out now.
Or was that just his flies open?

It's interesting that you collate the SNP with the great unwashed. I didn't realise that. I think some more reading on Scottish politics is in order for me.

Yes, I am also astounded to discover that the greatest element of the Scottish vote emanates from the most densely-populated region. And I am flabbergasted to realise that the vast majority are not considered to be middle-class. I thought it was all kilts and haggis. I should have counted the en-suite bathrooms in Glasgow. Hoots.

It's also a fascinating drive as quite a long stretch has a main road built partly on the vallum ...... there are some great switchbacks (well great unless you have a low slung vehicle ) and at one point you come over a rise after mile after mile of dead straight ..... to find a 90 degree bend immediately before you
The whole border area around the wall is fantastic scenery and many of the forts are well worth the visit. It's an area that I always intended to explore more ..... but somehow never had the time

When I first moved to Scotland (1981) it was very noticeable that everyone wanted to be working class, whereas in England everyone aspires to be middle class. But I think the whole class thing in Scotland is a bit different, especially in the highlands where there is still a bit of a culture of the local laird and the peasants (now somewhat diluted due to the incoming white settlers).
The other thing is that there is as much contrast in attitudes and culture between the North East and Highlands, vs Edinburgh and Glasgow, as there is between Jim and John up in Yorkshire, and folk living in London.
Yes the independence movement is mostly fuelled by fairly thick people who just want to paint saltires on their faces and get very drunk in a kilt whilst watching the football. I do know a few intelligent people who support independence, poor things are deluded but then humans, even intelligent ones, are easily deluded. You just have to look at religion to see how people can buy into completely irrational ideas. And there is a definite undertone of anti-English racism.

Watching the wee fesh on BBC Parliament this morning. She's wriggling like mad but I suspect that smaller fesh should stay within their depth, rather than challenge the larger specimens in the greater depths. She's talking a lot in her usual style i.e. aiming to always seem plausible and genuine but I suspect that wee hook is lodged in her jaw already; very close to the barb; it seems doubtful to me that she will be able to shake it out.

Sturgeons can grow bigger than salmonds.
She obfuscates with strident sincerity.
