Thanks faffer ... I was beginning to lose faith in this place ... all anger and bitterness ... your boaty post has put a huge smile on my face. Of course I remain in awe of your skills, but great to see a pure boaty post Rog Moving house gives plenty of distractions! well done faffer - those drive plates are a bit hillbilly! R&D Are brilliant, they are pretty good on the technical side of things so if you struggle to find what you want online give them a call and order direct from them. www.randdmarine.com/mdamper.aspBTW dogless , be careful what you wish for, we yanked the dead Kubota out of Northern Star yesterday, I’ve got the gearbox in the back of my car........🤪🍻👍 Is that the 3 cyl one fitted as a replacement for the petrol a couple of years back ?

The very one John, although a couple of years back has somehow turned into 7 years! It locked up without warning on the way to Peterborough last November, I ended up towing him for half the trip! News in reports bent rod on number three due to catastrophic head gasket failure. All salvageable though. I’ve got the box to alter the bell housing so it can be removed without needing to strip half the damn thing down, the gearbox currently bolts through from inside the bell housing, a crafty plate will turn this issue around, poor thing needed a new drive plate so the box was going to have to come off sooner or later.

My first Narrowboat had an unmarinised 3 cyl kubota, great engine and brand new. Just after I bought the boat [it was a share boat] it was needed so they asked my permission to use it which I gave, anyway one of the users turned the valve on the oil pump out by accident and apparently on a long river section on the Avon going hard due to fresh, it emptied its sump into the engine tray and seized up! hence the new engine.

Well what can be a front garden usefully used for ha ha Thanks Rog, and i get what you mean here life is to short hey. I feel better now as getting on with this, aswell as the mooring all my dreams have gone by the way but for this one and i am going to keep it to come true now Pleased to see and read you are feeling better..Life throws rocks at us all but if u don't pick them up they cannot weigh you down Keep posting pics and updating progress cos I like to see a project taking shape..Ants van now done so I'm in limbo till we find something else to keep me occupied. Take care Wish i could agree with you there Patty, feel like death warmed up today. Just wating for the pills to kick in and off to strip the dodgy engine Get out in the garden now, its crackign weather but for the snow last night. Thanks faffer ... Things are looking good for the dodgy engine. As we had this head off it i found the first exhaust valve seat past repair but for fitting a new valve seat. And with all the rest of the head a bit naff i decided to get another. This is alot better and came off a running engine that somebody is breaking, MMmm maybe i should of bought the full engines ha ha. so from this to the new to me head So next il get that stripped and cleaned up and check the valves, infact i have checked one already and it well within the tolerances. And next mage bonus is the drive plate that is looking not to good. Well got one from the same chap These buggers go for around £400 and this one a bargain at £50 happy days. Bargain hey @gazza And why finish there. this was the state of the bores. I took it to an engine shop as they said they would take a look and see whats what. And after a short few minutes with a honing tool then a flexible one they look good. So when i get the bore gauge ill check them out for sure. I will be repainting the engines and got some stripper to have ago with, what a waste of time this one is. I just wish i could use my sand blaster but thats not the best way to go is it. and it wont work with soda so ts either get it dipped or wire brush it. Oh yes on this project for the first time ever i am going to keep a cost sheet. I did for a while on the ;last boat but when it got well into the £000`s i stopped. Just curious if i will break even on this one as the other i near did, and could of but wanted a quick sale to get this boat. . The other day T gave me a hand again starting to remove the windows for refurbing. removing. We got one out, and what a faff. I was glad though as we managed to save near all the inner wooden frame. I think its Teak so i will replace the rotter sections. I have a steam bender here so if needs must and we find a rotten curved section i can make a replacement. No wonder there were leaks from the windows, they near fell out. Better stock up on the Butyl tape Love of my life i wake up to every day

nice bit of parking and I love the Goliath crane wot u pinched from Belfast.
I'll bet that the neighbours vacillate between outrage and fascination!
Good for you
PS : does anyone know why most boat trailers have a drawbar that is about 4ft longer than necessary?
