That Mirror looks in nice condition. They are great boats, I learnt to sail in the family one many years ago. She is in great condition. She was built in 2002. Raced for 6 or so years and then sat in the guys garage until he put it up for sale at the start of 2020. I love the history behind these boats. Looks good. What is the sail number? I think ours was in the sub 7000's, built in the 60's. Alas, it was like triggers broom, and had 3 new bottoms before it was burnt on the bonfire in the back garden.

HaHa Triggers broom. That was a great bit of comedy.
Sail number is 70108

Timing is everything! Doesn't look like the around Sheppey race will happen this year but always wanted to do it. Also St Mary's island to St. Catherine's dock would be good. Water pump? You mean you were motoring? Have you never considered the "3 Rivers race"? Starts at Horning then you can make your choice on which you do first, as long as you cover the Bure, the Ant and the Thurne then return up the Bure to finish at the start. It's a great race with classes for all sailing craft, for many it's over night. I would sit up watching it till early morning, grab a couple of hours kip and watch the stragglers come home. Phil

Phil Actually never heard of it till now. Sounds good but I'll need a willing crew. Care to volunteer? Two people can sleep on a Wayfarer but I snore like a pig so only good sleepers need apply. Also the 'around Sheppey' event is on, in September. It involves sailing on the actual sea! Efforts to wake up Wayfarer 10410 continues, albeit slowly. However I can now boast of the cleanest bilges in the dinghy park. At least the self-bailers stand a chance of working. Cool-looking Mirror Paul!

I lived in Rickmansworth cc ing then on a towpath LTM for a few years in the 00s.
Used to take the dog for a walk around the aquadrome. Sailing club is quite close to Stockers lock. I must say on a breezy day the lake there (not sure which one it was could be stockers lake?) did look rather cool for dinghy sailing.

Exciting news. Got the HPX drysuit back, the repairs look top-rate to me. Less exciting news, when I dug my other drysuit out (a Henri Lloyd item bought second-hand from ebay years ago) I could see the socks have turned to utter garbage. Shit. So into the shop it had gone...more money (sigh). Its cheaper than buying a new one though, which I was contemplating earlier this morning. The rest of it looks ok so fingers crossed. They promised me it will be ready for the last weekend in the month...
Also been in contact with the builder of the proud vessel concerning an outboard mount. I am too chicken to drill the holes myself so I may be graced with his presence. The boat is about to meet its maker...ahem.

You'd be better off buying a bicycle and pottering along the lanes. Holes drilled already for the outboard! All it needs is an umbrella.

Despite the fact I have never sailed a boat for more than about 5 minutes one of my grandfather's is in the OK dinghy association hall of fame. He's the post WW2 industrialist capitalist who managed to facilitate my life of leisure. Which never involved any sailing. I'm sure I missed a trick here. This geyser. The Crosby doors man. I'm the first son of his first son but company was sold off before I was born. www.okdia.org/hall-of-fame/person-hall-of-fame.php?who=Basil-Crosby

My hair is actually very high grade. It's just that I never cut, wash or brush it. There is occasional comb interaction to avoid dreaded dreadlocks but other than that nought.
If being aboard your wayfarer means being tidy I can find my comb and present as reasonably normal.
It's not something I tend to engage in that often but can be done if needed. One would not want to appear uncouth after all.
And I was like "yeah yeah yeah".

Just thinking back to The Three Rivers Race. There is no chance of sleeping because it's very competitive with boats coming from all parts, the fastest boats are Thames Raters and Norfolk Punts, they literally fly round. There are even classes for hire boats namely White Boats. No help can be accepted which did present a problem when a boat got tangled up in my weeping willow which overhung the river, a much saught after observation point was at Potter Higham where shooting the bridge would bring cheers, of course there was the odd failure but still they raised cheers. I can see the hoards of Wayfarers beating downstream and tacking on the shout of "Order Please" as they all swung as one onto the opposite tack Phil

In any case I fear the Three Rivers event may be a bridge too far this year. But It looks like a lark. However, racing isn't really where this cat is at. I'm more focussed on excitement, adventure, and really wild things. Like mounting an expedition to Lechlade in a 'Heart of Darkness' stylee.

Thames A-Rater. Jesus Christ look at that mainsail. It must have a lead-ballasted centreboard. Even the genoa is almost as big as my mainsail...I'm not surprised they consistently win.

Yes I used to see them a lot on the River when out in the dinghy as a teenager as there are some based around Ravens ait on the Thames. Also some up at Bourne end. Amazingly tall sails. Serious bit of gear. They look like nice quality units. That photo looks like the reach above Ravens ait to me . I recognise the trees
