Just thinking about Bearwood,West Mids where we lived for 31 years.Back in the day,I frequently trogged the length of the high street home at pub closing time from pubs/restaurants on the main Hagley Rd to Brum all on my own.No worries or fears. The last few years before we moved to Shropshire Autumn 2020,neither of us would have fancied walking along Bearwood Road at night due to the druggies & beggars. You would not believe how much a nice place could change because of drugs.

Something has changed the walk home for the worse, that’s for sure. Not sure it’s just a drug issue. I’d say it’s down to the new world of media and internet, just stirs up division and disagreements.

One thing about the internet - everything is available to everyone all the time. The 'always on' factor appeals, I think, to the worst aspects of human nature. But drugs turn ordinary people into animals.

I read somewhere that the story doesn't add up anyway - who walks across Clapham Common in the dark? I suppose if it were Wimbledon Common one would be attacked by wombles.
do we know that was the route she normally used?
if that is the case, and if she did not regularly vary her route, then I would suggest an element of lack of awareness that there might just be some scumbag out there.
as the Fox points out, anyone (man woman or undecided gender) walking across a park or common in the dark, presumably on a route that does not have continuous lighting, is tempting fate by doing it once, let alone every day.
all this reminds me of Jill Dando who was our local TV heroine, and what happened to her was equally sad.

The last sighting of her was south of the Common, so presumably she would have already walked across the Common (if she did go that way).

All good but risks an avalanche of 'misogynist!' from certain quarters, within our apparently progressed society. This society demands that women should be completely free to do whatever they want, whenever they want with no risk, in complete safety; zero risk. It doesn't matter that this stereotypes men (stereotyping is usually bad, in our apparently progressed society) as being violent. Neither does it matter that men are far more likely to be victims of violence than women. They've been stereotyped as violent so they deserve it, right?

We don’t yet know the whole story, they may well have history that’s not been made public yet. I know I wouldn’t walk across Clapham Common at night as a bloke, so why did she? Knee jerk reactions on flimsy chit chat won’t serve to solve the underlying issues.
The main issue as I see it is a breakdown of law and order in general. No respect or support for the law and its employees, with the recent attempt to withdraw stop and search being one example. The police seem to have lost the ability to employ people that are fit for purpose. Someone is killed in London every single day, and yet one single murder makes national headlines. Time for those displaying shock at this one murder to wake up and see the bigger picture before making silly statements. Address the deep rooted problems.

I've not seen anything that said she did walk across the Common - maybe I've missed it.
Seen plenty of speculation though. And unless she turned around and walked back in the opposite direction to her home I can't see how the attack would have happened on the Common.

Who said she was attacked on the common? I didn’t, and she was picked up after leaving the common, not attacked, so get your facts right. Fuckin idiot.

Last comment aimed at anyone who doesn't know Clapham Common.
The suggested route home followed an A road through the park - the A road is well lit and a busy main road.
