22.4 Kw weighing in at half a hundred weight ...... 30 Hp to drive it ...... that would make most narrowboat engines struggle a bit (and a hell of a belt to drive it )

Chongqing Bliss I would guess www.go4worldbusiness.com/product/view/960463/car-alternator-48v-400a.htmlThe 56v is like calling a 12v alternator a 14v alternator. £2k ? Really ? I don't think so. I imagine in reality rather than being used in a NASA machine it's probably just a big unit used on heavy earth moving machinery or something. The listing says Bosch in the spec then Chinese copy in the actual text.

Surely the actual output of the thing would need to be about 56v if it is used for Lead Acid batteries.

I don’t fancy side mounting it on an engine and as John has said what kind of belt would it need?

The one I found on Alibaba has an 8 groove polyvee pulley.
They are probably fine on really big engines designed to have really big alternators on them.

suppliers are generally a bit vague on technical descriptions in their adds so we may have one describing the battery system they are designed for and the other for it's actual voltage

That's what I was assuming when I made the post that you questioned.

Might be interesting for a shaft driven alternator yes that's true. Actually there has been a change of plan on the pod drive because I have bought another boat. Oh dear. Dulcinea was frowning at me about having such an underpowered unit on her bottom when she already has two perfectly good diesels and she suggested I buy a large open boat and bolt the thing on that instead. So I did, and will do. Talking boats eh? Who'd have thought it. She wakes me up at 3am and just wants to talk about the trials and tribulations of being a boat and the complications around having a dry bottom and objections to being taken out of the water again. It's terrible.

How many boats is that now? Have you thought about seeking counselling for your addiction?

I can't remember. The kids keep an eye on it. I think it might be 14 now.
This latest one is actually quite a nice unit. A Norwegian GRP coastal rowing boat about 16ft or something. Quality item really, imitation clinker style but all of the boat is GRP including the thwarts which is important. £700. That will make a nice floating electric cargo carrying platform for runs to Henley.
The floating electric beer drinking platform is really nice but it's a little bit low in the water and does have some issues with carrying anything heavy.
I did have some problems with it last year with occasional idiots in larger boats generating waves which would now and then breach the freeboard and as they (idiots) are getting more common I feel a larger unit may be a valid solution for longer trips.
"Le fils de pute" (I like giving boats french names) should be afloat next week and hoping to get some pics tomorrow. It's on the hard at the moment.
The name needs more thinking about . I did wonder about "pauv' con" too.
