Wayfarer: length 15ft & 9", beam 6ft & 1.0". Theoretical hull speed estimated at 5.5 knots. I suppose it would go faster with a frickin' big outboard and no care given to fuel consumption but the weight of the thing would cause problems. I expect. It looks like a planing hull to me or at least semi displacement. Definitely not full displacement. how about one of those 7.6 litre V12 outboards

Not into electric myself, rather hear a good petrol/diesel engine revving its arse off. Some clown said to me to convert my boat to electric, would of only cost around £100k with his suggestion ha ha.

Yes for speed it's expensive that's true.
For just idling around on a nice river it is a valid alternative to petrol on small boats.
I became slightly addicted to electric boating last summer when I was able due to circumstances to spend a slightly ridiculous amount of time going up and down various parts of the Thames in a silent electric canoe with voluminous quantities of cold beer.
If hell exists on earth then it was definitely not there.

I'll be interested to see your report about that. I wonder what power units they use.
Electric hire boats do seem to be becoming more popular. I wonder if there will be some reliability issues turning up with the motors.

Anyway it works okay withe the Honda 2. Could do with more but it is pushing up River and there is some water around still. My old Honda 2 is a nice unit. Proper bit of kit. A bit small for this vessel though

This is the one with the water cooled exhaust (air cooled head) and no gearbox or centrifugal clutch just start and go.
Quieter and a better item than the more recent full air cooled offerings .

This is called direct drive. And it does have a gearbox albeit a simple crown and pinion arrangement which is miles better than the complication a reverse gear would require.
