Boats out the water this Spring. When we painted the tunnel bands last time I was a little peeved that the red paint area that sits in the water came away fairly quickly. Above water line it still looks pretty good 2 years on. When we did it we didn’t use a primer, just rubbed old paint down. Didn’t get to bare steel. 2 coats of red were applied. Should also add we visited salt house docks a couple of months after painting. This may have been a factor? Anyway, would it be best to prime first this time? Have to take into account time factor. Only 3 days to complete work. Cheers, Ian.

Quality oil based paint Ian, as long as the paint below is in good condition rubbing down is good enough normally

Do mine whilst blacking (every two years) and just a rub down and a couple of coats has been enough to keep things smart.

You'll get a telling-off for calling them "tunnel bands".
