Just intrigued about what others think...
If you were ordering a chain online and the advert said 1 metre costs x - and you needed a 5 metre chain - so selected 1 metre x 5 units - what would you expect to turn up in the post?

A 5 metre length. I think you would have to add a message to say you wanted 5 pcs 1 metre lengths ie more cuts.
It's sort of obvious.

Where did you buy it from?
I'd be complaining about it unless they had it written down in the advert.
ETA put a link here (see what I did there?) so others don't come across the idiots.

5x1 metre lengths of chain. 5 units of 1 metre chain = 5 lengths at one metre each.

So when their stock says they have 560 units of this do we think this is 560 little 1m long pieces of chain or could it perhaps be a a continuous length.

It's odd because at the end of the day the extra cutting is extra work. I wonder if these are for fenders rather than anchors and that 1m lengths are more useful. They probably need to be explicit about it on their e-commerce platform.

It’s not their fault you interpreted it to your understanding. The obvious action upon reading such ads is to ring them and confirm.

There is an "ask question" link on the site. Writing it in the description would be useful though Something like "please tell us if you don't want this cut into metre lengths" It seems a lot more sensible to default to not cutting it thereby avoiding wasteage of materials and time and negative experience for customers.

Whatever, but the fact is, more fool you for not checking before placing the order. I suspect Andrew is probably correct in thinking the chain was advertised with fenders in mind.
