Back to the whole fire thingy - despite not feeding the fire of an evening, it's sensed that it may be needed on a morning and has intuitively began keeping just a few ticking embers there ready for me to do something with to save a fire-lighter ... this prevents the use of any lighter fluid - well it does now having made that mistake just the once....my new lazy option (actually I think I've gone full circle now) are those poundland instant fire logs that chuck out a lot of heat for about 45 mins, and they can then be covered with coal to get a little fire up and running after the initial blast of heat.
Since leaving shore line last Monday (and having abandoned the log idea) THIS is my intended method so I can turn the heating off (thus saving the batteries) about half 6 am so it's taken the chill off the bathroom for guests, taken the chill off the water but not gotten it hot enough to use lots of in the shower and prompt a discussion pointing them to the guest info leaflet where it's suggest if they like hot showers to take them after the engine has been running half an hour or so.
Wou'd have thought there'd be so much to this boating lark - constant evolution.
It's easy to keep it in... it's just that it gets a bit too hot hence why I'm letting it die right down on a morning... i'm pretty good at fire management now (with the right coal) but I much prefer doing it when it's cold out rather than this inbetween stage. Warm and wet is worse cause I quite often get carried away re-fueling and then can't open the hatches without the rain pouring in.
