I made a complete pigs ear trying to turn in Kidderminster on a corner before having to head down the locks that looked JUST big enough to do so ... it was 1 inch short which involved an awful lot of compression of the front button and I'm embarrassed to say, flooding of the tow path to get free. IT was heaving... Chinese tourists all taking photos and thinking it was a jolly jape.
Made worse by a rather rotund lady guest that I was too shy to ask to go to the front to give the stern a chance of getting off the bottom - eventually, I asked her to see if she could push from the front (knowing she couldn't but both her and I needed to get off the back of the boat) and once she'd gone, I leapt on to the towapth to push with all my might. Next time, I'll just go down the locks and back up again it's way much easier.
No boats were held up but it could have been much worse had it been in season.

I hope it didn't affect world trade.

I've been reading the Twitter comments of yellowdiggerman@suezcanal or something like that..I do enjoy the funny comments people put up in times like this. Hopefully they'll free the bow to-day without damage to the ship there are a few queued up waiting to get through.

Another conspiracy theory says that it was a punishment meted out by Allah. Or the ghost of Chairman Mao appalled at the Peoples Republic trading with the corrupt West and becoming polluted by Capitalism

Boat still diagonal according to the AIS. Oh dear. more tugs will be arriving today, with luck that should sort it? Or maybe not

I was wondering if they can get around the stern. Presumably more can be done pushing than pulling it and it would depend where the tugs were coming from.

Wonder how many ships are now getting orders for the Cape
(Last time I was that way, met the giant swells that can form well off shore of Cape Aghulas ..... on a ship nearly a thousand feet long, it was ........ interesting)
this was in 1965/6 shortly before the Suez canal was closed due to the war and before some of the ship killing areas were found by the many tankers that were forced to go the long way round. The tanker I was on used to go out via Suez but had to come home via the Cape because of it's draft (50 foot)

I think the really big ships will have to wait John I dont think they would be insured to go around the cape?

Yes and also this exact ship had a serious incident in Hamburg not long ago. Collision with a small ferry or something like that. Maybe it is helmed by Uighur slaves and they are making a point.
