I have just read the C&RT boaters update which appears to state that use of the Bridgewater canal for C&RT licence holders, has now been extended to 10 days from 7, but from 29 March this year requires use to be pre-booked online.
The boaters update often creates more confusion than it solves ... is my understanding correct ?
I have heard nothing of this previously.

I read it like that too - but there isn't anything in the "make a booking" section of my account online... unless it needs to be done on Peel's Bridgewater page? - I suppose it could appear tomorrow as an option... I now get a message after I log OUT telling me from the 26th (or some date already past) the log IN page will change lol.
'hopefully when we leave tomorrow and set off up to Marple, we'll not need to worry about it.

Yes, exactly the same for me quaysiderI ask because it doesn't make sense. You can enter the canal from three points, none of which are manned or controlled in anyway, so booking seems a nonsense. Perhaps all will become clear later. It's not like boaters update to cause confusion Rog

Its more stupid ill-conceived bureaucracy that is best ignored.
The Bridgewater boats blatantly ignore the restrictions on C&RT waters, they are limited to Barbridge on the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union but lots do the 4 counties ring!
Note the gross unfairness that the booking and restrictions do not apply to any hire boat.

Note the gross unfairness that the booking and restrictions do not apply to any hire boat. It's not that unfair. If you hire a boat, would like to be told that you couldn't do the Cheshire ring without paying for a Bridgewater licence because the previous hirers had done the same thing without needing to pay? I had a look at the announcement and the CaRT site, and I'm unclear as to whether booking will become mandatory. If you don't need to book, why bother? On the CaRT site it doesn't mention that you usually don't need to book the Anderton lift; similarly, Harecastle. Might stay "booked boats only" after Covid, though!
