Double Vision Recumbent tandem. (Posted in a trice with the Tapatalk app on my phone) That looks interesting, it was a Bafang motor kit that you got wasn’t it? I’m asking as I want to convert my post office bike. If you import yourself from alibaba then they are quite “cheap,” I’m trying to decide between 36v or 48v. What is your battery capacity and what range do you get from it? Yes kris, a bbs01b with 17ah battery. It's rated at 250w on the label but can be uprated with a laptop and lead to 350w. I've never done a full to empty milage check but I've easily got 40 miles with some left on 250w. It was supplied with a 46t chainring, swapped it for a 44, copes better with some of the tracks round here, especially with the trailer on. At the same.time swapped the rear freewheel block to get 34/11 instead of 34/13, to keep a bit of economy at higher speeds. De restricted it will hit 25mph (of course that was in the grounds of my stately home, not on public roads). Top speed limit is changeable from the control panel, no need for laptop. I got mine from Woosh bikes in Brighton, for any after sales service. What I have gleaned in the pedelecs forum is that the same motor can be wound differently to cope with a variety of wheel sizes, Do a bit of research if you are buying on alibaba. Also motors can arrive programmed for economy, which might not be right for you, there's lots of info about what to do with lead and laptop. One more thing, it's worth getting the bafang spanner for the lock rings. I don't know what motor is on the tandem, or whether the batteries have been charged and maintained. With luck it will be 36v so I can use the 17ah battery, just buy and fit a new cradle.

The resellers seem to be charging a premium and if you import yourself it seems up to 50% cheaper. I was thinking of a 500w motor that can be turned down.

Legally you are limited to 15mph/25kph, my motor happily does more if I want, but it gives me a higher average speed even at 15mph top assist. Unaided I used to travel at 12mph ish on the flat.

Nothing wrong with my spelling, you’re just thick and missed the point. Peddle and pedal have different meanings to a staunch and bright remainer. Bless. Ask nurse. Seems one of those little sperms didn’t make it to the egg, obviously the one that seems to have escaped was a critical one. Perhaps it was a brexiteer.

Can you convert any bike with a kit then?
We bought folding bikes for the boat but would be nice to have a bit of power to take away the hard work uphill

It seems Jim likes his bike. He'd like it even more, no doubt, if the state had paid for it.

We bought folding bikes for the boat but would be nice to have a bit of power to take away the hard work uphill easiest way, a hub motor, comes pre built in a rim of the right size. Probably a front hub. Something like a Switch. Or check out Woosh bikes. It's handy to have a throttle, though just rotating the pedals slowly the motor kicks in. The kits with a battery mounted in a bag on the handlebars might not have a lot of range but may well be the only option on a folder.

Power assist simple to the point, small hub motor, battery looks like a bottle. Nice theme no idea if they are any good though.

The haibikes are quite good, but don’t live up to the range they quote. The Carreras are quite good, but had controller issues in the beginning. We have two here that are the newer versions and thus far seem ok. I get 50 to 60 kilometres on a charge, and hers gets about 40 owing to it having a smaller battery. The cubes are utter crap, power assist is virtually unnoticeable and they are very uncomfortable to ride. You just don’t feel confident with them. These are the only ones I’ve tried out, as I won’t go above the 2 grand mark. Anything over two grand, you might as well buy a 50cc scooter and rat it to make it easier getting on and off the boat.

Bit more expensive but I like the look of the NIU electric mopeds. They must be quite good fun. Not cheap though.

Electric kick-type scooters are getting too popular in London now. They are everywhere. Coppers seem to be getting onto it which is good. I've seen a couple of them being done at the roadside. Normal Xiaomi scoots not big ones.
It's too dangerous without insurance and some sort of enforcement. I saw a dickhead racing along a pavement at about 20mph dodging around pedestrians.
It's quite risky because if you do get caught it can put your driving license, if you have one, at risk.
And no, ignorance of law is not a defence as the lads who were pissed on electric scooters found when they were banned from driving..
