So what are you doing personally to combat climate change apart from producing more hot air?

Dull and overcast today, few spits and spots of rain overnight. I will be mostly in garage workshop today, cutting wood for the pergola, the posts are in the ground I've just got to build the top. Most annoying thing is that I am having to take the offcuts to the tip as I don't have a wood burner and it's treated wood so not good to burn. Wrong thread, this is not about happy stuff...

I reckon it's possible that people who are unable to give consent could be getting the vaccine but it's quite normal for people under MHA sections to be given medication without their express consent Fair point about employers requiring vaccines that is a bit dodgy but I guess it is up to the employer ultimately. Interesting to read all over the news outlets about India descending into a nightmare situation. It's all slightly bizarre bearing in mind what a minute percentage of people actually ever get any effects from all this but there we are. I wonder if the real pandemic is the internet. The news coming from India is heart breaking. I watch the news once a day after Pointless.. apart from that I let it go. You can drown in gloom unless you control its input. The desperate situation out there is the stuff of Horror movies, yet its real Poverty, overcrowding and I guess many other factors has seen the spread of the Pandemic.. Yet still the fox calls us all sheep for wearing a mask and going through lockdown, but here we are with low cases.

Jim are you going to share your own 'greenness' with other forum members? I've already shown my cards. Perhaps you declined to have kids because they will perpetuate the damage you cause. Walk everywhere rather than owning a car? Have you invested in a heat pump yet?

Walk everywhere rather than owning a car? Have you invested in a heat pump yet?ย Seeing as you ask: Walk and cycle where I can, use bike trailer when I can, the occasional car journeys I fit as many jobs/pickups etc as I can. Car is rarely used just for leisure but I sometimes have tools, materials, cement etc to shift for property repairs. Depending Noreen's Narcolepsy, public transport isn't always possible, but we do when we can. I have 1 daughter and 1 grandchild by blood, 3 step children with another 8 grandchildren. That wasn't in my control. Would you have the race die out completely btw? Was it choice or circumstance that led you not to reproduce? Elec bike mainly charged by the solar on the roof, we generally export more than we use anyway. Awaiting GHG voucher for our house, incompetent management company dealing with the scheme, just got the voucher through for one of our tenants, in effect sharing the subsidy for our house around. Tend to live in and only heat 1 room, gets a lot of solar gain, as does our bedroom - which we never heat. I've cut back on wood burning cos of particulates but not getting rid when we get the heat pump, in case of emergencies. I have an induction hob ready to install when heat pump fitters turn the gas off. Our caravan is about as small as you can get, 2 berth 750kg, so hopefully will be able to tow it with an electric car when this petrol car expires. We only fly to Spain every other year, to see my brother. It's now 3 years since we went. I generally only comment when necessary, like with naughtyfox and his cynical posts. There you go, you did ask. We do what we can, every little helps.

Well, we're off to cut some more trees down next Saturday & Sunday. Why leave them for the Chinese or Russians? No need to worry about our 'particulates', Jim, the wind generally comes over from the Atlantic - it's the pollution that's coming over from the UK that weย have to suffer. "The refusal by Lancashire County Council to reopen its household waste recycling centres in the face of increasing fly-tipping has disappointed the leader of the Labour opposition group. Nelson Eastโs Cllr Azhar Ali, Burnley Central Westโs Cllr Tony Martin, Burnley Central Eastโs Cllr Sobia Malik, and Brierfield and Nelson Westโs Cllr Mohammed Iqbal had asked for their reopening." ย ย Fly tipping in Bacup I think I see the point you are attempting to put, Because there are Twats about we should all aspire to Twattery. Your math is faulty, 2 wrongs don't make right.

There you go, you did ask. We do what we can, every little helps. My ego doesn't stretch as far as wishing to continue my family name. Neither did I have an urge to reproduce. Urge for the act that can lead to children for sure but being a responsible person, I made sure this didn't lead to unwanted/ unplanned pregnancies, despite the state providing very generous 'insurance' for such irresponsibility. The species will not die out if more of us choose not to have children. Rather, it's likely to thrive. Thrive, because the displacement of many millions because of rising sea levels, many other millions starving to death doesn't equate to success to me. There's more to thriving than numbers alone. Size isn't everything. I accept that many people have an urge to reproduce. Other people have urges to take everything they can even if they have to steal or murder to achieve this but humans, having undergone civilisation, have rightly made laws to counter such urges. Laws to stop this, and to stop that, recognising that the success of humanity as a whole is more important than the 'right' of individuals to live their lives in accordance with their primal urges. This applies to all damaging behaviours with the exception of burgeoning reproduction around the world, a doubling of the number of people in my relatively short life. While the mitigation of the damage humans cause through technology, recycling etc. is a good thing it's pointless to do this on one hand, while promoting population increase, often to enable economic advancement, with the other. The notion that people can 'save the planet' by buying brand new electric cars, the materials for which are extracted from around the world is so far wide of the mark, it's laughable. There needs to be a drastic reduction in emissions etc., not tinkering around with a couple of percent by not burning petrol. The population needs to stabilise and people need to consume less. There's no other way. 'Green growth' is a lie. No growth is green.
