So because we can't achieve the ideal goal, in your eyes, we shouldn't do what we can? I suppose if we stop breeding we could bring in hard working migrants to do the work? No ego involved in the conception btw, these things happen๐. My name may or may not live on. Maybe my Granddaughter will keep her name when she weds. Failure to achieve the ideal goal means the end of humanity as we know it. This is what the scientists say. Fake news? conspiracy theory? For once I agree. There's a very interesting book / film called 'Ten Billion'* by a chap called Stephen Emmott who makes a memorable statement at the conclusion. Its a bit controversial though - he's been criticised for unscientific methods and cherry-picking his data that is used to re-enforce his arguments - but it seems to me the main thrust of his argument is valid, which is (to paraphrase a lot) buying EVs is not doing your bit and the only real solution is to consume less. As he emphatically states, 'a lot less'. But this won't happen so we are in fact all, as he says, f***ed. * other prophets of doom are available

As he emphatically states, 'a lot less'. But this won't happen so we are in fact all, as he says, f***ed. * other prophets of doom are available Not so controversial when you consider that following the Paris summit, when politicians from around the planet emerged hugging each other 'we've saved the world', having agreed to take action to reduce damaging behaviour in order to limit the increase in global temperature to 1.5 degrees by the end of the century.... damage has increased rather than reduced, every single year. Jim's right, it's better for people to take the small steps they feel able to take rather than do nothing. Ultimately though, these steps must be undertaken alongside more radical changes. It's simple really. People and their actions cause the damage. If the small steps people take are to be effective the number of people and the number of actions must be limited. Then, the overall burden of damage to the planet will reduce. Simply mitigating the damage caused by perpetual growth with ever further regulation, much of which will destroy the quality of life of the less well off is like pissing into a very strong wind and ultimately will only succeed in broadening the divide between the rich and the poor while the planet festers and heads towards its doom.

With spring in the air and seeing more & more Dogshit Bag Trees baring their delightful little black fruits, I noticed whilst strolling along the L/L that the Covid outbreak has spawned a new type of bush... The Facemask Tree... Just WTF is wrong with people? ๐

How's retirement suiting you Andyberg ? Rog Going great, highly recommended thanks.๐ Trip out on boat down the branch just to local Burscough / Parbold pubs for a week 2 weeks ago, trip to see daughter in van last week and boat tidy ready for BSS this morning, which it passed, so all legal with license and moorings paid up for year now. Vetus Engine service to do tomorrow on other marina for some beer tokens with next week being spent varnishing my back cabin and repainting handrails / scumbling borders to freshen up the boat... Life is good being retired!๐

If you don't want to believe you are being psychologically abused, despite SAGE saying straight to your face that's what they're doing to you, then what is there to say... you are beyond reason. ...I'm not the only one who regards this whole 'Covid situation' as a brainwashing operation. As I have pointed out, the predictions of those you would call 'conspiracy theorists' are coming true, some are here already - vaccine passports, persuasion by social disapproval to get 'vaccinated' for a disease that is so nasty you have to get tested to see if you have it... I remain suspicious and believe that the whole Covid/Agenda21 thing has been planned, and it looks as if the plan to subdue those who can't think for themselves is working. My stance comes from the censorship I see all around me, and from the derision of anyone who asks questions. Still, wear a mask for King and Country, eh? Boris loves you. Only you can't leave the country... so you are in effect prisoners - sheep in a pen! Baaaaa! Do you not have to wear a mask when driving your kiddy bus?

The end of the world is nigh.
Behold, judgement day!
Don't say you were not warned.
Repent at your leisure.
Isn't it.

Some Irish bloke came up to me and said "the end of the world is nigh" I had to go explain to him that it was going to happen later on.

The end of the world is nigh. ย Look around you! I tried that but all I could see was the inside of a boat, a load of Darda cars and track for them and a half eaten can of Stella Artois "Cidre". This does not appear to be the end of the world according to Mr Ostrich.

This does not appear to be the end of the world according to Mr Ostrich. ย It may be the end of your travels to France for the time being?ย How much for Covid tests for each member of the family?ย Vaccine passports?ย ยฃ5,000 fine for any attempt to escape from Stalag UK? ย "travel in and around France is off the cards for the next fortnight or so. Non-essential travel from outside Europe is banned entirely. President Emmanuel Macron said that, because of rising numbers of cases, the country was going back into a strict, nationwide lockdown from April 3 until May 1 at the earliest." ย Nah - don't believe a word of it.ย Conspiracy Theory. I don't want to go to France anyway. My other family members are all French so they can travel to France if needed. I would much rather be boating to be honest. honesty is the best policy !

Do you not have to wear a mask when driving your kiddy bus? No - not a legal requirement. Masks are available at my workplace, provided by the company, if you want to wrap something Made in China around your nose and mouth. Some drivers wear them all day, some don't wear them at all, and some wear them when there are a lot of passengers in the bus. A new school has been opened, so the bus(es) used to transport these kids to a temporary school are no longer needed for that work, so I am driving town traffic, charters, and as I am a spare driver for the garage in Kannus I cover those two shifts (around Kannus, and Kannus-Kokkola routes). It's become obvious that there is a majority who buy the Government lies hook, line and sinker, and believe in the invisible virus, face masks, 'social distancing' and the 'vaccination' - and those who question the narrative who get labelled as 'conspiracy theorists'. Well, now you have your freedom back in the UK, that's great! To be able to drink an over-priced beer in a pub 'garden', outside in the cold, and pretending everything is back to normal as you shiver. Foxy's prediction is that you'll still be wearing face masks in UK shops in Summer 2023. See if I'm wrong. That's good, best they keep you away from the kids.

So what are you doing personally to combat climate change apart from producing more hot air? "UK at โzero emissionsโ is a bit like putting your fag out, while your neighbours (India and China) burn a mile high stack of old car tyres, asbestos and coal for five centuries. Virtue signalling tosh that will make every twat unable to use the roads or air travel unless a multi-millionaire. Theyโre even going after central heating. Within a decade or two you wonโt be able to use gas central heating. Youโll need to pay for solar/wind/magic fairy powered central heating which will be shite, unreliable and expensive. Non of this shit will bother the rich. You see, the very rich can โcarbon offsetโ and do what the fuck they want." The salient point here is that when the UK becomes 'carbon neutral' the calculation to confirm this will be based on activity within the UK. All our cars (however they are propelled), clothes, consumer electronics etc. will be assumed to have appeared on these shores as if by magic. Mining of metals ores, drilling for oil to make plastics, their refinement into usable resources, the manufacture of parts and assembly of products and all the shipping involved in getting the products around the world and, eventually, to the UK will not be considered to be the UK's problem. All these things are for other nations to worry about. We're all right Jack, we're doing our bit, let's just ignore the fact that if the UK didn't demand them these things would not be made. Bonkers, and hardly 'internationalist' thinking.

It's a bit more complex than you describe and yes it's got some serious flaws, however it is at least some movement in the right direction. You are perfectly correct that "Carbon Neutral" in terms of CO2 levels is meaningless ....... but it would be even if it was achieved everywhere. Unless someone comes up with a genuine way of extracting CO2 from the atmosphere in a vast quantity, then it's all far too little, far too late. The damage (?) has been done and it looks very much as if climate and life on this planet is about to make a seismic shift, as it has done many times before.
The planet and life will survive again, just as it has done many times before. The question is more "will the human race as we understand it survive?" Survival of our civilisation, I suspect is unlikely, but Homo Sapiens* itself ?
The jury is out, we certainly are an extremely adaptable and inventive species ........ on the other hand that is exactly what seems to have caused the problem.
* from the the intellectual level commonly displayed, a misnomer
