Ricco for once I mostly agree with you! I think the report makes a good point that ethnic minorities are bombarded with a media telling them they are victims, no point in trying hard due to the white ceiling etc. But equally, there definitely are some pretty blatant racists around and that still needs work. Meanwhile getting distracted about whether one is using the correct words du jour (person of colour, not black etc) and having to use stupid acronyms like BAME, needs a good slapping.
Yes in this instance I agree with you about BBC bias, the news was full of victim-mentality people stuck in a rut of how hard done by they were. One chap was saying “I don’t see people who look like me in positions of authority”. Which may be true, but how many such positions is he qualified to hold and how many such positions has he applied for?
Fortunately they found a coconut to compile the report!
Following this yesterday. The usual lack of balance from the BBC: just a couple of commentators supporting the findings, many opposing them including some with extreme views, views that would not be tolerated had they been the views of those supporting the findings. The main theme from those not supporting the findings was that 'empirical evidence' proves that Britain is institutionally racist. That more black people are searched by the police, they earn less on average etc. etc. When a supporter of the findings suggested that black African students do much better than white students, but black Afro Caribbean do worse than both groups suggests there are factors other than race in play he was attacked by those not supporting the findings: "why are you pitting black Africans against black Afro Caribbeans?".
