He certainly was a character.
Just reading some of the replies on the palaces twitter announcement, the world can be really grim sometimes.

My sympathies go out to the close Royal Familly. To lose a spouse or parent, whatever their age, or the age of those left, is a desperately hard thing
Supporter or detractor of the Royals, anyone not feeling sympathy for the personal loss of the close familly and making nasty comments on social media ..... well it says a hell of a lot more about them than anything else (and shows them clearly for the type of people they are).

Not a great lover of The Firm but my heart goes out to them over the death of Prince Philip, any death at anytime is a hard thing to deal with Rip Philip Phil

I have been watching and listening to the BBC... He was who he was..I don't dislike the firm but I don't follow all they do. At least with the Lockdown the Queen was able to spend more time with him these last few weeks.. Guess Queen will be a bit lost without him by her side...gotta be a hard one to lose a partner of so many years...my thoughts are with her. RIP Philip
I have no intention of reading the social media missiles... If folks can't say something nice at a time like this they should shut up

It is very sad. I was hoping there was going to be something decent on the telly this weekend.

An end to an era really. Always considered him to be a bit authoritarian and quite brutal with it, but although many will say he was privileged, Iād say he worked bloody hard and basically gave up any chance of a normal life. I think we were actually the privileged.
RIP

22,000 royal engagements, that averages to 297 per year.

22,000 royal engagements, that averages to 297 per year. 22,000 engagements and only one marriage. Something odd there! (Well he did have a sense of humour!)

He started sniffing around Queenie when she was 13 apparently. Nowadays that would be called "grooming".

I think we were actually the privileged. RIP That's probably a very fair summation. I already had a 'poor taste' SO CALLED joke sent to me about it - which has actually saddened me and made me question a long standing friendship - yes, folks can be flippant about politics et all, but at the end of the day someone's partner, father, grandfather and friend has gone. Why can't folks be kinder and FEEL for each other rather than seizing an opportunity to ridicule and make light when a fellow human being is hurting?

It is very sad. I was hoping there was going to be something decent on the telly this weekend. The whole TV network has scrubbed all the normal offerings and it has been all about the Duke since it was announced and will continue throughout the evening and possibly tomorrow too. So Stabby dig out a few DVDs and dig in. Phil Rip Philip

Up here we've no tv or radio signal at all - which means Netflix on the 4g anyway ... perhaps quite handy today... Still, I'm much happier having "my day" than the windsor's.
