What was anyone going to do? Sack him? No. Which was my point. Anyone else though. Which of course is what is wrong with the world today. You can be a good person, do great work, but one misspoken politically incorrect word and you’re out.

The Duke gets presents from the people of Harlow. People from Harlow are jolly nice! There isn't a B & Q in Harlow.

I've always thought it amazing that all the members of the royal family have achieved such high rank and status in the armed forces. And usually extraordinarily quickly too. Admirals, commanders, captains, etc. It must be the breeding.

Not all of them- the seldom-mentioned kept-in-the-closet Wooly Woofter Edward barely made it beyond basic training in the Marines and went off to work as a theatre production assistant where he was a "friend of Dorothy".

Was that the Edward, Duke of Clarence, who was openly bisexual, often consorted with prostitutes and finally died of syphilis, or a later Edward?

I'd hazard a guess our prostitute murdering truck driver is referring to the current one *allegedly.

Lets face it the Queens offspring have proved a mixed bag..... But then its the same with most families... trouble with hers is that all their exploits are plastered for the whole world to see and pass judgement where as us commoners keep under the radar. Its the price they pay for being who they are. At least with a week of 'official mourning' Queenie can keep behind closed doors.

I wouldnt have the job for all the tea in China, you are a goldfish in a small clear bowl, with CCTV added so everybody in the world can pick over your life! They then make stupid comments about them when they do what we do, thats not life its hell, dressed up in a fancy package. I am glad we have the royals, because the option is Macron, Biden and cronies milking the country without giving anything back

Wasn’t he the one who had the brain wave about “it’s a royal knockout.’” Compared by that paragon of virtue Stuart hall?

Yeah, you're right, they've got it bad. PS we also have the cronies, not instead of.

If media attention is the drawback of: Living in a castle, Having a personal helicopter at standby, Untold wealth, personal armed bodyguards, loads of freebies wherever I travel around the world, Country Estates, Private Woods, Butlers, maids and gardeners, No debt And I'd definitely have the odd boat then I'm sure I could cope.
Some of the royals do very well to stay out of the limelight.

Funny made quite a long post but it all seems to have disappeared .... bugger it. second go. I reckon the "Firm" do a decent and very cost effective job for the UK, both as the titular head of government but also for the some 400 public engagements a year !!! I was looking at the cost to the Americans of the security alone for their president and all of the former presidents who warrant the same level of protection as the sitting president. The costs of that alone were absolutely gobsmacking. Just to put the cost thing into perspective, it is calculated that it costs every French citizen over double for the French presidency, compared with the cost to every British citizen for the "Firm" (plus we get a massive tourist draw as a bonus.)
Although not particularly a "Royalist" I believe I am a pragmatist. ...... and as it works fairly well, I also believe if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Given the popularity of the status quo it seems unlikely there will be any significant change anytime soon.

I wonder what proportion of the population are honestly and truthfully following the national decree, and mourning. Whether you admire his forthright attitude, outlook and speech or on the other hand, subscribe to the latest populist lefty trait of 'cancelling' anyone. who doesn't behave exactly as modern day socialism requires. The proportion, I'd imagine, is vanishingly small.
