You probably know that eBay has changed its payment system so that is no longer using PayPal but pays funds, less any fees, directly into your bank account. This takes longer and means you have to pay for postage upfront or delay posting till you receive the money. However you may not know that they now charge for an auction reserve price whether you sell or not AND they take payment upfront! They tried to take £27.50 from my account yesterday so I contacted them. The response was it was 'for insurance in case your item doesn't sell at the price you want' As Gran Taylor would say "what a f*****g liberty!" I told them that there was no way they were charging me that, that I would remove the item and close my account. Eventually they said "as a gesture of goodwill and because I am a long standing member with 100% positive feedback they would make an exception and not charge me. I have decided that, from now on, I will only buy on eBay, selling is becoming a farce!

I will only buy on eBay, selling is becoming a farce! eBay may be a thing of the past for me as living in the EU and receiving packages from the UK/outside the EU seems to incur a 25% VAT + customs charges - unless I have them sent to a UK address and just bring them home with me stuffed up my jumper. I think with Brexit most 'leavers' just wanted rid of the corrupt politicians, but didn't realise a 'hard border' would pop up between the UK and 'Europe' and bring all kinds of sudden, unexpected and uncomfortable changes. You should have listened to Jimmy. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

People are moving away from it preferring other options such as market place on fb. A shame really, I’ve enjoyed using the auction site on eBay over the years. All good things come to an end eventually.

A hard border was a certainty given all the leavers talk of ‘taking control of our own borders’ and controlling EU immigration and not to mention the clear intent to make our own trade agreements with non EU countries. So any one not able to see this coming should probably not vote in future on such matters, leaving it to those that can understand the consequences.

naughtyfox whining, whingeing and ruining his keyboard with tears cos he's surprised he has to pay duties and taxes, having voted for them. Blame the fox for taking the thread off track, not me.

eBay is a funny old thing - we did £280 of sales between Christmas and February, ebay had 10%, PayPal had about 5% and the parcel companies about the same. While I’d have like to have kept as much in my pocket as possible we still walked away with +£200 for a fair amount of kit that may well have ended up in the bin!
Not sold anything since the change in payment policy but I’d bet eBay has a fair bit of legs in it yet - people so used to buying on there I can’t see it dying just yet, all it means is sellers margins get squeezed, but is that squeeze worth the easy selling and wide audience? Only you the seller can answer that!

Only you the seller can answer that! I think eBay is struggling. I used to look on Amazon, then compare prices on eBay. Usually eBay was considerably cheaper, but lately that has changed, probably because of ebays new trading. The shops that sell on there often sell stock a lot cheaper if you deal with them directly. My main habits are cameras, tablets and laptops. These items have seen substantial increases, and I have recently been dealing with the sellers direct. Much of the stuff on Amazon is now considerably cheaper than eBay, plus the delivery service is next day. I do miss the auction site though.

I just object to Amazon and their business model, ..... guess I'm just going to have to stop buying stuff on t'internet
(will only use paypal, if they don't use it, I won't buy from them)
