Well, we don't get Countryfile here at 6pm. And we cancelled our membership of the IWA before Christmas. With the CRT licence going up by about the same amount the IWA membership cost, it was a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul. I thought you didn't have to pay CRT at the moment.

Wow! I never realised how little I knew about the canals. I never knew that the canals fell into disrepair after commercial use dried up, and only the intervention of CRT allowed the canals to be brought back from a state of dereliction, which has all been achieved since 2012. Apparently the efforts of the hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts who actually restored so many canals, such as the K&A, was just a bad dream. I never knew that frogspawn appears in ponds "and the frogs are not far behind". The diver/reporter showed the frogs mating among clouds of frogspawn. I guess I need to revise my understanding of the birds, frogs and bees. Like the disastrous BBC coverage of the Jubilee parade on the Thames, the final programme was clearly ruined by the clever just-out-of-nappies producers who edit and sequence the input to produce an entirely misleading scenario. WHAT A LOAD OF BOLLOX!!
High time the BBC was made to be competitive and to finance itself through sponsorship and advertising (but I'll bet that CRT wrote the script about the history of the canals). Why should we pay a licence fee to be presented with a load of propaganda rubbish?

Really fuckin pathetic wasnβt it. Total bollox. CRT has obviously convinced them the fairies at the bottom of the garden are worth listening to. oh, and the thousand quids worth of drone crt had there in order to convince joe public that they are going to provide heat for homes from the canal. What a lying bunch of scammers this lot are. They struggle to keep water in the canals. Fuckin bunch of fairy story twats.

Of course it is important to recognise that post Covid welnesss is incredibly important and I'm like "OMG you can not underestimate it's importance" and I was like 'where is our funding' and I'm like "on a plate."
Isn't it.

Once the shops are open again, the towpaths will be deserted. Who gives a fuck about dragon flys when m&s has reopened.

It will be interesting to see how much people engage with the canals on their doorstep. I have a funny feeling some people might like it.

I just could not comprehend the fact that CRT were the saviours of the world from 2012 !How rude to the folk who worked hard to save the canals for us back in the day.I actually found that insulting as I know folk or their rellies who were involved in saving Marple locks, the Stourbridge flight & the canals around Dudley.

I have to admit I did watch it on catch up (after a message from a well wisher to ask if I 'd watched it) and found my shouting expletives at the telly box a few times... I "GET" the idealism of the program but painting such a rosy picture given all the closures and incompetence really did get my hackles up.
Hey ho - Gonna head down the Marple flight this morning and slowly make our way to the tunnel ready for the 'skippered passage' and watch some bloke knock the top corners off Ellis as it's deemed "covid un-safe" for me to drive it though at the moment.
