I used Tufnol, and it's lasted 33 years so far. I knew someone at the factory, but have no idea where it can be purchased except RS components, and it ain't cheap

Plus you get it on your hands. Maybe butter as Marlon would say. The other option of course is to add wheels off the side. Does the hatch have to lift up and slide or does it just slide along at the same level all the way? wheels aren’t possible.

Giving it an occasional swab of oil is high maintenance? Jiminy Cricket. It is when it goes onto an already long list of maintenance tasks, oh the joys of owning a big old boat.

This isn't much use but as I don't have the depth required for the little modesty blocks, I glues a bit of aluminum strip down and pour melted wax on to it every couple of weeks (if I can be arsed - other wise I rub it with a candle) to keep it sliding easily... trouble is when I've just done it (and thus it's very easy to slide) I forget and exert the amount of force used in preceding slides - and often come a cropper as s result!

I had slide issues but opted to leave it locked and just told people that I had misplaced the key and that they should just duck. Part of the problem was as has already been mentioned, people gripping the slides as they entered and getting oily hands. Phil
