I have been thinking for a while about that. Whatever format Dan turns CWDF into (or not as the case maybe) or if he turns it into some form of money maker or even if it just limps along like a fatter version of justcanals. It will remain a huge resource of information both technical and historic for new (and old) boaters of the future. Much of what has been gathered there, is from members who are no longer with us and is possibly not stored anywhere else. To destroy or even make difficult to use, a database like that, for selfish or revengeful reasons is wrong. To willfully and deliberately damage it is akin to burning the library of Alexandria. It is a form of censorship, it would be ironic if those of us who have fled censorship, should indulge in the same deep thought over for the day, I'm off for my brekkie

Just on the wiki thing there has been development of a CWDF wiki site. I initially offered to help with it but then CWDF started going down the tubes and I never really did anything about it, but others did. However I don't think it has gone live yet. I also stopped because a good chunk of what I enjoy about CWDF is sorting out people's technical problems and from that, it is obvious that each problem has unique elements and it would be unlikely that a wiki would be any substitute for live interaction, even if the questioners could be bothered to read through a wiki which inevitably has to be written in general terms.
So there is a plan for a wiki, as far as I know there isn't a plan for turning the whole database into a wiki (I can't see how that could be any different to searching the site as it is now). As far as I know Dan doesn't want to commercialise it either.

A wiki is a frustrating way to try and find something out and doesn't compare to a live discission. Wiki often prokes questions it has no facility to answer.
All afternoon on fruitless confusing internet searches or a chat on your exact situation a forum?

I posted the summarised timeline (as far as I could determine it, any corrections welcomed) of the mass cull on CWDF. Its caused a bit of a stir because it seems to show that it was all planned. 9/7/16 JohnV 14/7/16 Loafer 14/7/16 Delta9 (last post 3/6/16) 14/7/16 Jenlyn (last post 21/4/16) 15/7/16 PaulG2 (hadn't posted for 3 weeks) 18/7/16 graham.m (had been on modqueue for ages, never had a post declined) 18/7/16 emerald fox (last post 26/5/16) 18/7/16 bassplayer 18/7/16 tadworth (or whatever name he was using at the time) As I've said, not one of these people had an explanation for their banning because the system didn't work. Many of these people had been slagging off CWDF from Thunderboat and yet Dan denies that was a factor. you forgot me you "bit of a monster you" I can't remember the date sete before John not that I really care. But just for clarity.

Anyway I think I had enough ammo to make my point, and it did cause a bit of a stir!

I was definitely retired with no reason given. Then shortly afterwards, I was suddenly retired again as MaxWelly, after mentioning that I was once Loafer! Now we have a site owner jumping up and down who probably hasn't shaved yet, and a bunch of woolly but angry schoolmarms who could do with early retirement themselves.
I'm back there again, but only out of sheer curiosity to see if it gets worse! I'm quite comfortable here, with a few of my old 'friends'.
FWIW, I agree with Nick and generally always have. The dirty monster!
