I know I'll get shot for this but I have a much easier way of doing the above : But....... using a key takes away all the macho fiddling with all the fiddly bits which makes the whole starting thing a good experience Phil

although I would agree with the "turn the key" brigade, a friend has a Thorneycroft "Handy Billy" engine in his gaffer and I must admit I find it delightfull to trundle down the river with the engine at not much more than a tickover
