A mate of mine was cutting a piece of 4" channel with someone else holding the channel. Blade snatched and broke, ended between his bollock and femoral artery. He's ok now.

When men and machinery work in disharmony there are always horror stories to be heard I have never been tempted to have a go with saw benches or anything remotely like it...I leave that to the idiot male of the species.......

I did a tree felling course back in 1996 as part of Marine engineering BTEC. Stihl chainsaw. You have to keep it level as if you are taking pints to a table on a tray. What?
Anyway I passed the course and was certified as able to fell and sned trees up to about 16 inch diameter.
Never touched a chainsaw since then. Useful tools but I much prefer bow saws for firewood.
I suppose if you had to make a living from cutting wood it might be good but I always left that sort of problem solving to others.

I have a Stihl 16" chainsaw, but always wear the kit, a pair of Kevlar chaps, gloves and helmet. One thing I picked up along the way was to hit the brake with the back of your hand when you put it down.

Chain brake and switch off was what I was told. Saw not in use=engine not running.
I bet these new electric saws are pretty good. The ESC on brushless motors allows far more control than the old IC engine type.
And quieter.
A revolution in deforestation, potentially.
