Some people (Foxy) just love to moan and say how bad things are compared with everywhere else

"My wife and I are quarantining at the moment (we don’t agree with it but we live in Finland and this is the first opportunity we have had to visit family in the U.K. in over a year). We have had phone calls (to my mobile) most days – the first of which I answered but the caller was unable to prove who they were. After going round in circles for several minutes – with me very politely declining to answer their DOB question until they proved who they were – they disconnected. After that first call, my phone rings most days but stops after 2-3 rings so I have been unable to get there in time to answer it. We had one visit (on day 3) from a nice chap who claimed to be from the Covid checkers. He said: “I’m looking for Mr X” I replied: “that’s me”. “Ok, bye” he said and left…. no ID check, nothing." Is this a quote or you?

Just had the chap round to do a service on our Morco instant water heater. Turned up fully masked, after a few seconds it was below his chin, and five minutes later, sweating away, he ripped it off. I made no comments about Covid. The discussion drifted onto heat pumps and hydrogen boilers. He agrees that installing heat pumps in existing houses is not practical. A surprise comment that the proposed natural gas/hydrogen mix is highly inflammable and the implications are frightening. Then electric cars. It seems that if the chassis containing the batteries is damaged in a minor shunt the car has to be written off. Insurance will be huge for this reason alone. Yes but don't forget how good it is for the economy if all cars involved in minor accidents need to be replaced with brand new ones. It could be a game changer. Doubtless some cynic will be along shortly to question whether 'eco cars' needing to be replaced so often negates their apparent starring role in 'saving the planet'. Please ignore them, they are just conspiracy theorists.

Did you bombard him with fresh hand picked nut quotes till he gave in? Just had a ASHP fitted for a tenant, no issue at all. He is pleased how little it's costing to run. Flammable Gas is highly explosive whether a H mix or not. Pay the insurance with the fuel cost saved.

Flammable Gas is highly explosive whether a H mix or not. Pay the insurance with the fuel cost saved. We should balance the fuel cost saved against the much higher cost of the car. Let's also not forget, when the government has saved the planet by bullying everyone into buying brand new electric cars they will have a large hole in their finances because of the demise of fuel duties. Governments, particularly ones that agree to each new populist demand to spend more borrowed money, don't usually respond to losing revenue streams by shrugging their shoulders and thinking 'hey, that's OK'. Oh no... You know that lovely little smart meter that's on your wall, a wonderful 'free' offer from the government? Do you really think that the government would waste 22 billion pounds on such decorations, if they didn't have a purpose? Not very long from now, when you're charging your brand new Nissan Leaf, feeling proud about saving the planet, your nice little decoration on the wall will tell the government that the electricity you're using is charging your car. You'll receive a suitable bill in due course, a bill that matches your previous bill for fuel duty very nicely indeed.

My electrickery usage was already available to whoever might be concerned long before the advent of smart meters. They will have tracked you to your cave in furthest welshland as a matter of course. We have to pay for what we use (or not, what profligate spawning others use) whatever, one way or another. Still, it's summat to whinge about eh? What proposals do you have as an alternative to eclectic vehicles to cut co2, nox and particulate emissions?

What proposals do you have as an alternative to eclectic vehicles to cut co2, nox and particulate emissions? a/ smaller cars with smaller engines b/ less cars c/ lower use of remaining cars All easily achievable with simple fiscal measures. Just for example: a £5,000 a year 'road fund licence' for large suv's along with a doubling of road fuel duty. No exemptions for single mothers, black people, the disabled, homosexuals, immigrants, hard working families with children, gender non-specific people, families of victims of Grenfell and Hillsborough tragedies.

What proposals do you have as an alternative to eclectic vehicles to cut co2, nox and particulate emissions? sorry mate, but smart meters allow total flexibility for different time zones for charging or for extra charging rates when higher current being drawn. Non of which was possible with standard metering techniques, the most that could be achieved with that was simple "peak rate" or "off peak rate".
With smart meters a whole gamut of pricing regimes are possible
That was pretty obvious to all except the extremely gullible

I agree, but that's not what you said earlier, only about them knowing. Nowt about cheap electric at night or when there is excess in the grid.

We need to get rid of IC cars full stop. As soon as. Suck it up, buttercup.

Nothing to suck up, I don't drive a gas guzzling car. Neither do I, I use my ebike mostly, the car rarely gets used, we will look at a hybrid or electric when this one dies.
