The limiting factor is not so much the size of the motor as the size of the battery bank. As far as I know there is no formulaic answer to the problem of power to speed for housebricks. All the standard charts are for proper hulls. I suspect the only way to find out what power is needed is to try Some narrowboat hulls are more boat shaped than others Being a poor pensioner I dont have the cash to keep swapping units until I get it right. Then the performance of Peterboats boat wouldn't help you much as his is a widebeam.

The problem is that unless a miracle has happened your boat will be similar to every other narrowboat of the same size its a tube with a pointy bit at one end. As for power Andrew is correct double the speed equals lots of power, what you forget is that I am on a navigation so on rivers all the time and my boat still moves against the flow.

RPM on Loddon and according to the Beta spec sheet 1000rpm is 3mph spec sheet says 16hp/12kw 1L/hr 1600rpm is 6mph spec sheet says 32hp/24kw 2L/hr Can go faster but burns to much fuel for me and it takes the engine above its peak torque Would a similar motor to yours be enough to get 6mph?
