I came across this article in a newspaper while doing some sorting out this morning. It's a letter to the editor. and I though it might be of more interest than some of the other quotes we have presented to us from the Daily Mail
Sir,- The thanks of the campersout and all lovers of the open air are do to the Daily Mail and to Lt.-Commander Kenworthy, M.P., for bringing to their notice the danger which threatens their simple and health-giving pleasure.
As one who has spent some portion of each summer under canvas for many years past, I should resent deeply an Act of Parliament which would deprive the camper of the choice of the site of his tent.
This inteference would possibly mean living among gypsies, tinkers and the like, should he elect to occupy the ground allocated by the local authority.
Such an act would undoubtably mean the death-blow of holliday camping in this country and would deprive thousands who can afford no other holiday of their annual tonic of sunshine and fresh air.
Gratias Newcastle-on-Tyne
Oh by the way ...... the copy of the Daily Mail was dated Wednesday April 21, 1926 and was the 3.30am edition which cost 0ne penny
