About the only thing I did in Huddersfield was eat too much and chop off the towbar...

Exactly!
Chopping off the towbar was probably a stress too far on a cracked rib or two...?
Take care, get those bilges dry and try to look after yourself x

Fall Ings Wakefield is a nice little mooring to hole up, spar shop in the adjacent garage, a take away nearby, Hepworth Gallery a cock stride away, good cafe there as well as interesting art, Chancery Church on the bridge is worth a visit, as is Sandal Castle, with grand views and a nice cafe. AFAIK it's 48 hour mooring but there is one unsigned and unlimited mooring between the residential moorings and the 48 hour sign. We've left ours there and come home by train for a few days, no problems. Afraid I don't know where the nearest KFC is though. It's a hard life.

To be honest, there is no way I'm even going to attempt to move from here at the moment. Just moving to switch engine off and close doors was painfull enough.

Agree - bilge type pump followed by sponges for the water (had something similar when a calorifier blew whilst I was travelling so know what you're going through!). Re: the ribs - strap them up with an elastic type bandage, take ibuprofen and try not to breathe too deeply for a while....
Good luck on both counts. You don't have to sit around for a month going nowhere, but you can give yourself a rest for a day or two x Thanks. That is what I did in Huddersfield - now back to square one, if not worse. So stop doing it! Feel your ribs carefully. If you can feel a gap in a rib or an end sticking out ------- GET HELP -------- before you puncture a lung. Otherwise its strap up and rest, there is no way to support a broken rib till it heals. Two paracetamol every waking 4 hours is the recommendation.

Actually strapping a chest up is no longer recommended due to possibility of getting a chest infection.

If there is a local Lidl, phone to see if they have any wet/dry vacs left. 20 lts at £29. Acheap bilge pump is easy enough to extend the leads to a convenient power point and can take a 1/2" hose with a little fettling. They can move quite significant amount of water for about £15.

The wet n dry will use quite a bit of power. I'm not sure how durable the 230v system is on the boat @armchair is on. I think he might have a travelpower but not sure. Obviously if he did then it would be no problem.
I've never been able to run a big device like that on any of my boats if not on mains or generator but I know a lot of boats do have pretty sorted 230v electrics these days to be fair.

Have a cheap bilge pump from amazon due to arrive at the not too far to walk Coop on Saturday, hoping that will clear at least the big volume of water.
