It's such a PITA that there are such obvious physical differences between the BBS01 and the BBHD, especially where the price difference is negligible. Also you could have a much better battery than you can with 36V, again the price difference is not anything to consider. BBS01 BBHD

It won't be slower though. The assisted speed is restricted to 15mph by the speed sensor. Depending on the gearing, mine topped out at 25mph derestricted. All of these things I shall inevitably mess with but for now the aim is simply viable auxiliary transport to the supermarket and back. I can't forget that youtube vid of the nutter with a 70mph death-on-wheels object though.  What about a trike? Hmm... Flappy is avidly following this thread Phil

The trike concept is too cool for school on a number of points. But I think I'd want two wheels at the front like a Morgan. There was a short-lived craze for motorised trikes with balloon tyres in the 70s made famous by Sean Connery bombing about in the desert on one in Diamonds Are Forever. But it had a tendency to capsize forwards and I seem to recall a number of fatalities.

2 wheels at the front is a Tadpole Trike. Mind you the Hase Recumbent trikes look ok.
Re the bbs01b and the HD, whats the difference that makes a difference in the motor shape?

At a glance its the size of the fins. Yes, the Hase item might work ok but I'm imagining something that could carry a lot of battery and some luggage too. Not sure it would do it and I bet it costs a packet. Gods damn type approval.

Get pedaling you lazy buggers. Save the NHS! Mock ye not. A while ago I badly hurt my right knee, and I have my doubts that I could manage even gentle hills, hence my desire for some battery assistance. You can go the whole time on power alone with this gadget but that isn't the plan. In fact I hope it will help build up some strength in the knee again.

A pootle out to a meeting via the scenic route, tested the new handlebars, very comfy, easy on the bad wrist. There's a ruin in the trees on the right, used to be an Isolation Hospital. Bugger this mask nonsense, lock em up in a draughty barn up int' hills. That'll cure em.

And to be fair, not too many jobsworth police where you are. Down here the Soho rickshaw people and the cycle couriers were all early adopters of the tech and a lot of noise was generated as a result.

Landscape carved by melting glacier on top of the hill. Bridleway runs along the edge of the hills from the summit pass, whole area is covered with bridleways and other ancient tracks.
