As I understand it the 60+ pence in the pound is fairly accepted for a reduction in Universal Credit once earnings increase and this gets worked out on a frequent basis. Also if earnings go above a certain level for just a short while then stuff like Council Tax credit can be affected.
Much of this is taken from the 'horses mouth' of some fairly close family and then backed up by me looking things up because I couldn't quite believe what I was hearing.
The family members work on zero hour contracts close to minimum wage and try to manage things so they don't effectively work for nothing when offered extra hours unless the companies really need help.
I think they said at one point if they work extra hours then the actual cash benifit to them is 20p per Β£1 earned.
ETA - One of them works for NHS 111 on nights shifts via an agency.

It's not real money anyway. It's monopoly money, just printed up like those leaflets advertising services nobody wants that either end up scattered over the pavement, or in landfill. Soon to be worthless. You're absolutely right. But it is a shame to have your wallet and piggy bank filled up with the useless stuff. But being such a nice chap I am quite happy to take the worthless stuff off your hands. Just send it to me in the post. Sure. Given that it's not worthless yet (soon to be worthless, remember) I'd be happy to discuss your proposal of trade so that we reach a mutually satisfying conclusion.

On the other hand NHS staff on over 50k can get it put into pension for little or no tax or NI cost. As can anyone on any income, your point?

How unusual - a so-called 'socialist' who lusts after other people's money.

So they were able to save and have now bought a house. We sold that property last week at a very nice premium, it sold in 5 days.

I went to the a small hardware shop in Marlow earlier to buy a length of 6mm or quarter inch dowel.
When I approached the counter another person who I assume was the shop owner was becoming quite agitated about the fact that the price of mouldings was about to go up a lot.
He was really concerned about it. I mean not a joke situation. The item I bought was 8ft of 6mm round dowel. 6mmx6mm as if anyone needs to know the dimensions of a circular object.
Anyway it was Β£2.55. next week perhaps it will be a fiver.
I think some bad shit might be coming as a delayed reaction to covid.
I mean you don't want to be paying a fiver for your common or garden 6mm dowel rod really. Let's face it. It's a staple.
