That was my problem so I ripped it out sold it and now have silent electric perfik But you live on a mooring peterboat ... not sure cc'ing would be so perfect. Rog Chatted with a guy with an electric motor recently. Works well for him, but he admitted he does run a diesel genny most days.. I can see the attraction of quiet cruising, even if it only runs for short periods. Saying this, his motor/prop noise wasn’t noticeably quieter than my hospital silenced jap crap engine.

Another thing I find annoying is the sound of myself laughing at the jokes from Mr Stabby.

I was chatting with a guy up at Bugsworth about an all electric boat moored up there ... saying it was perhaps the future.
He pointed out the boat had an onboard genny he was running in the evenings and when cloudy/wet.
Maybe not so silent then.

Music even if it's distant, that has overegged irregular bass. Drives me fuckin mad.
People talking too loudly. If feel like saying to them 'Could you speak up please? I can't hear you'

Swans. I absolutely hate the bastards. Pecking on my hull at four o' clock in the morning, hissing aggressively at me because I need to operate a lock somewhere near their odious offspring. I'd gas the lot of them.

I'd gas the lot of them. Gas is expensive these days, and bad for the environment. Better to do things humanely and environmentally consciously, by wringing their necks.

There is one particularly aggressive sod of a swan that hangs around Elland Bridge on the C+H. Had several brushes with him chasing my boat and pecking the outboard.Tried to outrun him,but he adopts a a semi flying posture making a lot of noise with his wings and continues pecking. Once moored overnight outside the Barge and Barrel after a skinful, and didn't get much sleep due to this sod pecking at the hull every half hour.Just dosing off and bang bang bang.Lost my cool and clocked him one with the pole hoping he would bugger off,but it only lasted half an hour and he was back again waking me up. Found two of my fenders hanging off next day where he had pecked through the rope. It's almost as though he knows he's a protected species and knows I am not alowed to hurt him.

Swans do know they are protected and have learnt that humans are aggressive, will catch them but will rarely kill them. Therefore they can take more risk viewing the human as an equal rather than a predator.
They are not natural wild birds.
Grebes on the other hand have learnt that humans sometimes kill them for example for feather hats so they keep away.
Ducks the same. We shoot them.
Canada geese not that bothered but will stand their ground if threatened rather than fleeing.
I like winding up the wildfowl in my little dinghy. Last year for the first time ever I was struck violently on my beer drinking elbow by a swan. It's a known lairy one in Limehouse but has never hit me before. It was a very hard whack.
I was concerned briefly I would have to learn to drink beer with my left arm but fortunately was spared this terror.

Rog I do but I do go cruising as well, plus like it or not diesel will be leaving our lives as boat owners. Older people are safe but younger ones will enjoy silent cruising like I do. As an aside Finesse boats only have orders for full electric boats now, solar on the roof with a genny as backup, the benny can recharge the batteries very rapidly, on say a 5 hour cruise with no solar 1 hour recharges the batteries, if its sunny like today no genny required. They are turning away orders for diesel boats as its pointless for them

Fortunately it's quite easy to disorientate a swan by putting a sock over its head.

Fossil fuel will be around a lot longer than us on here and most of the canal network.
