Been up at Lechlade today and while concentrating mainly on the alcohol situation I did notice some "Kelmscot" violently killed pig products. So I bought them being a bit of a fan of violently killed pigs (don't ask).
Anyway it got me wondering if people value local products more and if in fact the local products are just Chinese shit they buy really cheap and what they do with the animals if they are not making them into meat products.
Maybe racing ? Like they do with horses. That could work.

entirely up to the customer innit? it's become the latest thing to do for the younger set. when I was a lad it was Saturday evening down the Prospect of Whitby or the Chelsea Potter.
my daughter swears by her local farmers' market and wouldn't buy farm products anywhere else. ................ oh! I forgot to say she lives in London NW10 and she meets all her school gate friends at the weekly market. What's the betting that all the farm fresh stuff on offer comes directly from the London wholesale markets?

I know he's not much liked but the series "Clarkson's Farm" which I thought was brilliant. Anyway he opened up a farm shop and was told off by the council for not selling local produce.
I think the milk was from a neighbouring county and breeched planning consent.
But, to the youth point. The shop is quite expensive, like most but Is very popular amongst younger people and is probably becoming a bit of a car meet too.
I think they all just want to meet him.
I suppose though if it gets People into being good fresh products from local farmers then they may continue to do so more locally to them and that should be a good thing.

Ah milk, I bought a milk round and ran it for 4 years and got used ti people telling me that milk from the Lincoln Co-op was better than any other. The fact is that Tankers constantly tour the country filling up from farms and when full they take it to the nearest processing plant for treatment and bottling. That meant that milk all got mixed up with milk from various farms and counties, it's not feasible to expect any farm to have it's own tanker, not cost effective. The same applies to LPG, people claim that Calor is better than Flogas etc etc the reality is that bulk tankers of every faith all queue up to fill from the same "pump" so the only difference is the label. Just go to Immingham to check out the veracity of this. Phil ETA just saying

The same applies to LPG, ................. .............. and petrol, so I am told.
In the good old days there were loads of TV ads for petrol - now I can't recall seeing one for years.
we're going well on Shell, Esso's tiger in the tank, etc.

A tiger in the tank seems the last thing you would want. It would block up to filters in no time due to the fur.
It's like the old Astra advert "it's welded to the road". Why would anyone buy a car that is welded to the road?
Bizarre.

They should all be welded to the road, stop them going anywhere and setting on fire. Never never try to change the front brake pads with the key in the steering lock, even not turned on. All the air bags deploy and write the car off.

I like Jezza and have met him on numerous occasions, I used to go out with Lesley who was his mothers neighbour, Jezza drank in the local pub in Tickhill, which was down from Lesley. On a hot sunday Lesley was late back from her walk as always and Jezza was having a pint outside he saw me turn up in my XK8 and wandered up for a chat, we had a few pints together and Lesley had a drink when she turned up, whe went off to prepare lunch and Invited Jezza, she didnt like him much but hid it well! Over a few months I regularly met him and he came to lunch often. In reality he is an ok guy even Lesley like him in the end and he provided many laughs and always brought a decent wine to lunch. Since his Mum died I havent seen him, my ex business partner went to his shop last week and said the car park was packed so he drove off!

He's gone up in my opinion. He really is trying to be a farmer and make it work.
I get that the show has its moments for the TV but he really is trying and genuinely enjoying it.
I think a lot of people seem to forget that how he comes across on say top gear or the grand tour is just scripted.

He's gone up in my opinion. He really is trying to be a farmer and make it work. Total bollocks. Clarkson is playing at farming largely because of a fat deal signed with Amazon to make some television (Marie Antoinette found herself in a similar position). The final scene deliberately brought some truth to the bullshit. But fair play, he's had a very successful career so splurging a quarter mil on some equipment in one day and paying in cash is something he can afford to do (and it was chickenfeed - the boat he used in the Vietnam thing was custom-made for him at a cost of around 1 mil). He did achieve two things - highlighting just how difficult it is to earn a living in farming, and some entertaining telly.

The fact he is finishing his second year farming without any cameras suggests he's not just doing it for the cash.
We know most of it is for TV, but it does make good TV.
I've no doubt they are recording this year's harvest and show it as next year's as filming has just commenced.
The game shop will make a killing.
