Just ordered an orbital sander , click & collect, after speaking to my brother who's a builder.
His recommendation for D.I.Y. power tools is Makita.
I think I would have answered 'cheapest' but have taken his advice.
Just curious what you folk use/recommend for a bit of fun.

I use the Einhell power x battery tools. Reasonably priced and good enough for me.
I needed battery operated stuff as my van was in car park and I couldn't get power out there for the angle grinder.
I have a few of their tools but now having a drive way will change to corded tools.

All sanders are crap except belt sanders which are vicious bastards. So any with a motor around 1000W. You're not in the trade therefore you don't need trade quality. Aluminium oxide paper is worth it though, buy a whole roll. Forget packets of pre-cut sheets from B&Q.

I definitely wanted corded ... I use the genny to power them and don't want to be having to pre charge batteries.

when I was using my tools commercially my make of choice was Metabo Powerfull and very robust (if a little heavy due to the amount of metal as opposed to plastic)
When my Metabo battery drill started to fade last year I couldn't justify the considerable cost of replacement.
I had a couple of Ryobi corded tools in the past which had both been very good indeed (large chop saw and a portable planer)and I have a Ryobi orbital sander (corded which is ok
I ended up with a Ryobi battery drill which although not as good as the Metabo is still very good indeed.
Since buying it I have used a couple of other borrowed Ryobi battery tools (wrench and pikey key or angle grinder) and have been pleasantly surprised by their performance

I've got a Worx cordless brushless pi key it seems quite good. Don't use it much.
Previously I have enjoyed Makita power tools and they did seem to be very good albeit older tools with battery issues.
I have actually re-wired an old Makita 9.6v angle drill to run off 12v and that is my only functioning drill. I don't use that much either but it does work very well. Proper quality.

Our kid was telling me about the power tools professionals use ... and the costs !
Names I've never heard of and much too big an investment for what I want / need.
Even buying a new sander, my total costs for painting the cabin sides (so far) give me change out of £400

I did quite a lot of yards of jigsawing 6mm steel with my corded Makita 720w jigsqaw and it barely noticed it.

Sander from Argos 15 quid. Buy a new one when it packs in. Sandpaper from Home Bargains, £1.50 for 10 sheets from memory.

My trusty Bosch drill literally came apart in my hands a while ago when attempting to use it as a socket gun. Note to self: don't do that again. Replaced it with something labelled Erbauer, probably made in China or Taiwan and not Germany as the name might suggest. It was on discount from Screwfix. The 4ah battery seems to last for ages.
