We ate in a W's yesterday as it was convenient (Brewdog IPA was spectacularly good). There are tv's everywhere in there, showing endless Olympic coverage ... ladies weightlifting, ladies basketball, ladies hockey, and men's badminton whilst we were in, and all on the BBC as far as I could tell. No volume but impossible to totally ignore as there were screens wherever you looked. I'm not a fan ... but my younger sister is loving the coverage ... she finds it a very positive, upbeat celebration of life ... she also suggests it's almost impossible to ignore if you watch any TV. Are you an avid follower or disinterested ? It is strange that sports that only the participants are interested in during most years, suddenly in an Olympic year, attract major coverage Rog

For some reason I'm drawn to the men's diving... can't think why ;-)
but seriously, no. It's nice for young people to achieve something but I'd be just as impressed with the 'primary school teacher Olympics' or something else useful.

I believe we have an avid fan of womenβs beach volleyball on the forum. I do hope his wrist is holding up.

I was interested in the 10m air rifle event but when I tuned in to watch it they were just normal air rifles.

When the London Olympics was on the place turned into a ghost-town overnight as everyone went away on holiday, either to 'avoid the crowds' or rent their pad out at an extortionate price (I expect a few actually paid it). The only person who had a good word to say about it was Boris, but it was an unmitigated disaster for local business. Also one of the most deprived areas got some new sports facilities (how they rejoiced) and several miles of waterway became no-mooring zones which AFAIK remain in place. But we did have a nice opening ceremony.

so far I have successfully avoided it Iβm the same, sport has got to be the ultimate distraction technique.
