I "don't go there" when it comes to CRT waterways so it doesn't affect me but I idly wondered about the Kennet and Avon situation with the broken lock gate near Reading. Looking it up on Twitter you get this: So no indication of which lock or bridge it refers to. You have to open the notice to find out. Surely it would be better to shorten the canal to K&A and put in L3 or whatever to indicate the actual location. I know there is a character limit on these but it seems really naff not to give any indication as to where the canal is actually closed. The word "notice" is a waste of space too. Could just put "New" or "Update". Bizarre.

It is fairly pointless. But then Twitter is fairly pointless, just encourages.sniping.

I don't use Twitter as a contributor but to be fair the short sharp way the text is delivered is actually potentially quite a useful way to update and provide info such as stoppages on canals.
It's easy to input the data, a universally accessible platform and shows data in a nice tidy and timely way.
It's just odd the way it is worded making it impossible to actually work out what it is referring to.
And the way to do the date is 10AUG21. That's nice and short and difficult to get wrong.
"Update: 10AUG21. K&A L104. Navigation closed. Towpath Open."
All of the canals can be described with 3 letters or less and would be understandable.
In fact it is common to use terms like T&M, B&F, L&L etc. Not sure what the shortened term for the Llangollen is but there will be one.

This one is a good one...
Twitter says;
Actual notice is this;
Please be advised navigation is closed at Lock 63 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal due to a damaged cill. Our local team have been informed and are on their way to site.
To ensure the safety of our customers, padlocks have been placed on Lock 58, Top Lock and Lock 64, Bottom Lock to prevent access on to the Johnson’s Hillock Lock Flight.
An update will be provided tomorrow, 11 August.
Grrrrrrrrrr...

Being something of a technophobe, you'll be unsurprised to learn I don't do twitter.
If C&RT do stoppage alerts by text and e mail, I don't understand their need to twit ... as I understand it you need a phone to twitterise so you'll get the other alerts anywhere.
Or have I misunderstood ?

Freya2020@whiteshepherds If u check out .... Its very infantile, but keeps me amused I wanted to prove that a dog posting as a dog would be popular Certainly got more followers than my other 2 Twitter accounts...one of which I had to delete when family member disapproved of some posts. I don't really bother with the other as I feel I can only post what would not 'upset' the one who monitors Wasn't worth the hassle of the aggro...put it like this freedom of speech only goes so far. Hadn't posted anything derogatory but they took what I wrote the wrong way. However safe to say they are not interested in a dogs Twittering waffle! Therefor I waffle....
