I. A cook with a scientific background and an interest in gardening. So, my skill set is in the preserving , cooking and preparing of whatever comes my way. I do not suffer fools gladly so if you wanted to act like a prima Donna I would need to preserve you in a cassoulet But with me in your community you would not starve or suffer from a vitamin deficiency ( other than by choice). HOWEVER any community where Dunkley had a say would either consist of a lot of cassoulet or not include me. Life is too short Let it go

Ricco's engine had been out of his boat for three weeks on the first day I ever met him. I can't be bothered to scroll back through two years' posts because I never actually said that or anything like it. You are just lying, like you are lying about living aboard Halcyon Daze. I advise you to reconsider, delete, and apologize for what you've just posted. And I advise you to recognise Mother Dunkley for what she was, and to reject everything she taught you about lying and cheating your way through life.

As far as I recall, the first time you and he met was when you called in at Middlewich, by prior arrangement, and helped him to move his boat down to the nearby Vetus agent's yard below the lock, for the express purpose of lifting the engine out there and having it repaired by the Vetus agents. I also recall that once the engine had been lifted out of Ricco's boat, . . you and he then had it lifted back onboard and left on the boat's aft deck, . . instead of leaving it with the yard who were to carry out the necessary repairs.

Skills... hmmm.
I'm good at poaching eggs - in fact, I'm good at having a reasonable dinner almost ready to serve when we tie up for the day whether I'm single handing or have crew.
I've lots of useful tools that might come in handy. Some I even know how to use!
Key to survival is adaptability - and not caring too much how something looks. One of my dad's best phrases (he's time served mechanic who ended up spending most of the last 20 years doing crash repairs/spraying) is "it's near enough for a country spot" - I think it's a north yorkshire thing.
Ignoring charging issues (which I've proven to be crap at over the last 2 weeks) - I can turn my hand to most things and have a fiddle or take things apart to see what's broken. That said, I often have bits left over when I put them back together but that's over engineering for you ;p)

I helped him bow haul his boat to the Vetus agent. I then continued my journey.

You are maliciously publishing information that you know has no basis in truth or fact. The defamatory remarks that you posted on the Thunderboat forum with regard to my part in the matter were made with the intention of doing harm to my professional reputation as an engineer. < www.proboards.com/tos >

Repetitition is not one of the skills required for when the end of the world starts happening. I am afraid you may be asked to walk the plank unless you can come up with a skill which is deemed of use for basic survival purposes.
Are you a strong swimmer?
What about that really cool trick setting fire to things by rubbing sticks together unfeasibly fast ?
We will need fire makers so that we can have hot dinners. Fortunately we have some good cooks about.
Maybe you are a hunter with boundless energy charging through the undergrowth, spear in hand in pursuit of that delicious looking muntjac.

Has anyone on here managed to create fire by rubbing sticks together?

I once watched Ray Mears doing it on the telly while drinking beer and scoffing pizza so I am therefore confident I could do it if required.

I don't get all this 'fire lighting' faff by the likes of Beary Grills... I mean, if you are able to carry a little flinty spark creating stick to get some wood shavings going, wny not just carry a lighter? - simples.
