I don't get all this 'fire lighting' faff by the likes of Beary Grills... I mean, if you are able to carry a little flinty spark creating stick to get some wood shavings going, wny not just carry a lighter? - simples. Lighters run out of fuel, suffer from damp ingress etc. Flint and steel last for ages. I have a set in my rucsac. Usually carry a lighter and penknife in my pockets. Probably neanderthal genes at play.

I know someone who is really into the survival thing and he said it's actually very difficult to do this and much better to throw a spark onto some tinder with a steel and flint as suggested by Jim. When the end of the world starts happening I intend to hoard swan vestas matches and candles. The prices will skyrocket and I will securely seal them by the thousand inside thermos flasks with dessicant pouches. This should see us through for about 18 weeks by which time most people will be unable to deal with the shortages.

It's something that definitely needs practice. It's not easy just to rock up and do it. I cary a flint and strike like Jim, so much easier, needs decent dry tinder though.

It's behind you ! Do you need to put the waxed matches in thermos flasks because otherwise the wax would melt in the Global Warming ??

Yes and also thermos flasks are rain proof.
Carrying thermos flasks helps people relax as it is a useful thing to have with you. They can be old glass lined ones if you handle carefully.
And buckets. Buy buckets they are only around £1 each currently but inflation will see them rise to around £5.53 with in months.
Buckets are for carrying essentials other than matches and also for collecting water.
