Fascinating response to this new agreement.
The EU and France in particular seem seriously concerned ... perhaps more with loss of revenues than political implications.
It is clear that for better or worse, this could not have happened whilst the UK remained within the EU.
An interesting development on the world stage ... but does it, as critics suggest, make conflict with China more likely ... or as supporters would say, put China 'back in their box' ?

IMHO it's an upturned finger to the arrogant little Macron and his bunch of stooges.
An interesting observation on Radio 4 - France has habitually kept the technology of their own nuclear subs secret from other western powers, so from the Ozzies' point of view it would never be sensible to buy such subs from France, and cancelling a contract for diesel subs when a much better alternative is available using US/UK technology is a no-brainer.
IMHO France is again moving towards an isolationist position, largely the result of their inability to show they are a reliable member of the western alliance.
My brother moved there 3 years ago and is on the point of returning to the UK. partly because of the frustrations of getting anything done in a quasi-communist nation.

China under Xi has become quite aggressive. One can either sit back and do nothing and let them get on with their expansionist behaviour, or one can make a bit of a stand and say βOI, weβve noticed your behaviour and we are adopting countermeasures.β History shows that the former tactic doesnβt work and the latter one, whilst by no means desirable, is the least worst option.
But of course there is an element of 2 fingers to the EU, and why not, they are sulky brats especially the Macron brat. But his days are numbered.

It has been for a long time. Parasites are in charge now. Will take a long time to improve. My kids are half french half English and half Moroccan. Too many halves but I wonder how they will react as they get older to the French situation. They have always lived in Englandland so probably stay here but France will always be interesting for them. I would suggest the cheese eating surrender monkeys are best at a social distance

In further developments I see France have withdrawn from previously arranged defence talks with the UK ... although the UK version is that they are postponed to a later date.
Diplomacy between nations always seems to involve this kind of 'tit for tat' point scoring ... I wonder if now the issue has been aired and AUKUS has been announced, everything will once again go quiet.
A new 'Cold War but with China perhaps ?

Macron removing ambasadors from USA and Aus is shitting and stamping in it with a vengeance. That sort of thing is normally reserved for a major diplomatic row not just because a valuable commercial contract was cancelled. "Stabbed in the back" he cries but it's worth pointing out that since the deal started, the price had gone up from 31 billion to 56 billion. I would have thought that was being taken to the cleaners.
