I thought long and hard about a thread title and where to post this on the forum - it dawned on me that dad was a boater through and through, it wasn’t Pit fodder nor News and current affairs; it most certainly wasn’t going to sit comfortably in the Religion section!
As for thread title, Dad often used to say ‘Don’t beat around the bush boy, say what you mean and mean what you say!’
Dad and JohnV struck up a good friendship - he went to see John when he was holed up in Lowestoft; I didn’t make it but he did, not even a forum member at the time!
This is an extract of a message I sent John before I created this post - I can’t think of anymore to say, or a different way to say it. John, I hope you don’t mind me sharing a small part of this with those that he and I consider friends.
I have the sad news that Dad (Mouse on here) passed away last Monday, he had been ill for some time, suffering from pulmonary problems along with heart failure - he did however manage to get one last big trip in, two weeks from Peterborough Yacht club out onto the Great Ouse covering all the tributaries from the Cam to Denver. He was taken from Stanground Sluice to Peterborough City Hospital by ambulance after his condition deteriorated quite severely.
He was most annoyed he didn’t manage the last lock and the remaining 5 miles back to his temporary mooring!
He had an 8 day stay as an inmate at the City Hospital before finally giving in, sharp and quick witted to the last as ever he was!
I haven’t much felt like participating on here over the last few weeks, but with the registering of his death I thought he’d want me to give my head a wobble and let you all know, he really enjoyed Thunderboat and counted many of the members as friends.
I’ve plenty to do sorting his affairs and arranging his funeral so if you get a bit of radio silence from me again please understand the reasons why.
Should anyone want the details of his funeral please do PM me.
He has one last big voyage left to complete but he will always be with me for the rest of mine. RIP Dad.
