Loss of our parents is a really tough one to cope with, whatever their age. Mouse fitted in here really well and as others have said he was a true TBoater. When dad passed we took a really scenic route to the crem through all the lanes of the countryside..He had been a Massey man thru and thru and loved the countryside. Somehow that journey seemed the right thing to do. Mouses last living journey will be one to look back on over the years and remember, its stuff like that, that becomes a comfort. Youngest son and I often talk about my dad and what we did, he was the closest of all of them to him and sharing our thoughts keeps dads memory going. My thoughts are with the 3 of you..take care xx

Gazza - truly sad to read your news but appreciate you sharing it. I've no words of wisdom other than to reiterate the need to be be kind to yourself and don't feel under any pressure to behave any certain way. Dark times right now I know - but they will improve... someday it still feels like only yesterday my mum died so brace yourself for the oscillating times ahead.
Take care of everyone you can but also let folks around take care of you too x

Thanks guys.
This weekend was tough - Saturday was spent clearing his flat, he was pretty organised and tidy so it wasn’t as hard as some might have - it was however a bit of a challenge when the choices came down to Keep, Donate, Skip. A life lived well but ultimately condensed into a time pressured day of going through his worldly goods.
I have kept his motorbike jacket - fits me like a glove; just like it did him in his mid 40’s! Whether I’ll ever get back on two wheels is neither here nor there, I’ve got it rather than casting it aside 👍
Today we had a go at a normal sort of day, the first since he went in to hospital on the 4th, managed a short cruise out on the boat and a full day at Ferry Meadows; on the whole we had a good day, but with his boat not far away and him not with us it was inevitable him not being there wouldn’t be far from our thoughts.
One day at a time - one day at a time.

The loss leaves a massive hole ... it never heels up, you just learn with time how to live around it.

I kept mums big aran cardigan and I wear that often, its dingy now but I won't chuck.

Things will always make you think of Mouse & that's exactly as it should be. Back in 1993-dad died in September & mum died 10 weeks later, mum was lost without dad to argue with 😊.My only brother died the following May(leaving a widow & 2 young chicks). He'd been in remission a few times from lymph cancer. All these years later,I still think things like how much they'd enjoy something or like something I'd seen. Clearing my parents' house after they'd lived there for 40 years was hard.It was the stuff which got skipped that made me cry-old pans, colanders etc which were tatty but I'd grown up with them. I still 'talk' to my family & hope that you'll 'talk' to Mouse.x

Evening all. Today was the big day, my brother and I along with the Celebrant Sid who took the service spent a great deal of time putting together a fitting tribute to a great man. It went without a hitch an was a fitting send off for Mouse. JohnV did you all proud and came to both the service and the lunchtime bun fight afterwards, appropriately attired in a Thunderboat top. John, from the bottom of my heart I thank you for coming to Dads funeral, it meant a great deal to me - hearing the tales retold along with new ones added helped make the day as good a celebration of his life as any of us could ask for. One final journey left, Peterborough to Oulton Broad, then Oulton to Cantley to set his mortal remains away down the Yare. Rest easy Dad ⛵️🛶🚤🏍🏎🚗⚓️🚁✈️🚂

So nearly one week on I have had this letter from the RNLI A huge thank you to the kindness and generosity shown by Dad’s friends and family - at his funeral we had a fairly simple affair with a small floral tribute from us boys and his grandchildren, flowers seem such a fleeting thing at a funeral, particularly when you consider they can only be on display at the Crem for 5 days anyway. He would far and away been happier to have seen a tangible benefit from those that showed their love, respect and friendship for him. Phoning the donations team was the best thing I did - he spent countless hours on the pier at Lowestoft and would much preferred for it to go directly to HIS local station rather than to the national pot. With a donation from Middle Nene Cruising Club to their local RNLI group the grand total came to £500. Next up is to send his floral tribute down the Tidal Nene Saturday evening on the ebb followed by a decent swill in the Dog in the Doublet 🍻
