Starmer is saying that we should issue 100,000 work visas if that's what it takes to get HGV drivers' pay down to the minimum wage whereas Johnson says the haulage industry needs to raise HGV drivers' pay to attract ex-drivers back into the profession.
Hmm, tricky one, eh? I just can't make my mind up which one I'd vote for if there was an election tomorrow.

By the time Labour realise that the halfwit leadership is not getting anywhere, their best chance (Andy Burnham) will have buggered off again. I’m not suggesting he’s any good, but he’s more electable than mr and Mrs dimwit. ...if you ever wanted to see a prime example of the career politician, one who jumps from pillar to post depending on where he can best get his name in the press, who has no principles other than being a success himself... Not like Doris then.

Not specifically on the subject of HGV drivers, but as a general point I think it’s crazy that people in full time work need to also be on benefits to make ends meet. The minimum wage and wages generally for certain sectors of unskilled work, should be viable. We currently have a jobs market /economy where they aren’t, and that is wrong IMO.

Not like Doris then. Fair point. The difference is that Johnson is a toff. It's understandable that a toff might want to look after his own, despite his weak bluster to the contrary. Burnham though, makes himself out to be 'the people's champion' whereas as long as he's the champion he couldn't care less, and would support anything that was popular. He really is the ultimate populist career politician.

Yeah, that's an important distinction. It's Boris all the way for me from now on.

Labour’s modus operandi is once again to tell those of society who identify as the have-nots what they wan to hear. Higher wages? Of course! No tax rises fir the workers? Of course! Tax the buggery out of the well off and businesses? You’re welcome! Stick it to private schools? We’re on it! However, when it comes to funding they are curiously vague; borrowing obviously, but they wont look at funding it until they have the figures (yeah, right!).
