I believe it’s a P55ME, 8 hp. That’s the engine manual it came with anyway and it seems to bear a lot of similarities. P55M all day long 👍 as it’s a P55ME it should have the luxury of a dynastart electric starter. Is that still present or hand start only?

Still present and correct 😁 Found the starting handle under the steering wheel yesterday when I was cleaning but luckily the dynastart is doing its thing so I haven’t needed it yet.

That’s good news - the P55 is surprisingly economical when running in good order.
I wonder if it has a Siba/Bosch dynastart regulator still fitted or a later Lucas RB series as was commonly used.

I've not actually had a petrol inboard boat as all of my boats have been diesel or outboard.
There is a lot of talk about the safety aspects, which I tend to disregard, and I know a lot of older boats have been repowered with diesel but in reality does the BS inspection cause any problems for these old petrol units in cabined boats ?
It's a lovely engine and as mentioned not greedy on fuel.
I suppose with the BS having been going for 25 years the boat has probably already had one.
I really like the toilet in fact I want it. As an ornament rather than a throne.
I think it would be great for growing nasturtiums.

It has the Lucas regulator fitted, I checked over the weekend. Seems to do the job, I also checked the engine plate against the manufacturing date but it didn’t really tell me anything I didn’t already know. It was made between 1958 and 1969. Makes sense given the boat is 1965.

My husband broke the toilet (not through using it, I hasten to add 😉, just by pressing the pedal more enthusiastically than me) so we took it out to repair on Sunday. The water level allows us 5 inches of leeway before the water could come in and even getting on and off, the boat doesn’t rock to that degree. Unfortunately, even with the toilet and first part of the pipe removed, the part which has broken - the join/clamp/connection between the flapper valve and the pedal is still inaccessible and we can’t take off the next pipe join because it’s too close to the water level so it’s now been put back in and revealed until we slip the boat.

JohnV,
I had a very interesting phone call with Paul, the man who ran the now defunct Ormelite website, this morning.
He filled me in on some of his knowledge of Ormelites and things I should look out for. He also still has all the old photos and information from the past website and hopes to put it all together on new website someday.
He remembered you and Shapfell and wishes you all the best.

That's good to know .... soon after he disapeared I tried hunting for him on line but couldn't track him down, in the end I just gave up trying.
If he can post some of the amazing photos that were on the site, that would be fantastic !!!
