Back on topic. Here, NW of the culvert, water levels still steadily rising, must be near parity. Short of some catastrophic failure, I'm confident I can escape, though not convinced there is anywhere interesting to go! Next winter will be on another canal: this is turning in to "Lockdown Re-visited"

Getting emails from CRT on a daily basis, they are making good progress, and hoping to open some locks fairly soon, see Notices on the website. My immediate goal is to turn around, and go to the CRT services, should be plain sailing. I can get coal delivered, half Red, half Gold, keeps in fairly easily though I use a fair amount of kindling and firelighters, it's not a Squirrel, needs far too much tlc imho 🤔

As things stand at present, it looks as if you're going to be marooned in the 30 or so miles of canal between the bust culvert near Rishton and the stoppage near Gargrave until at least Easter next year.

The main, and most significant being that the Blisworth closure didn't trap any boats in a 30 mile length of canal, . . and, unlike C&RT's current stance with regard to the legal status of boat Licences, BWB did NOT claim that Pleasure Boat Licences were a form of annually renewable 'contract', . . which, of course, there are inevitably two sides to !

Funnily enough CRT have not offered free transportation, IMHO that would be ridiculous expense, and a part refund of licence fee would set a precedent, leading to general outrage. I have always had water under the keel, and after a few weeks I have been able to turn 180 and backtrack. I fancy no one is patrolling and spotting non movers, but tbh that's never been my worry, the CRT did not phone me this week, so they must be confident I am not in difficulties. I am currently at their regional office, sitting on the water point! In the last three weeks I have seen one little yoghurt pot moving, and one nb out on the cut, its very Marie Celeste. I can moor up here for a few days, to re stock the beer, had coal delivered, but aparently it the last opportunity, as he is retiring, I'm not convinced anyone else will supply me on this rather restricted winter cruising regime. Going to order another 200kg fuel, even if I have to use them as ballast. It could be a difficult winter, shortage of gas, diesel, and avoiding paying marina prices for the poorest quality nuts.

Nuts? Anthracite? Try CPL online. Better with monkey nuts much tastier or chestnuts better still

I understood from several earlier posts in this thread that you were to the East of the bust culvert between Rishton and Church, . . but if you're now tied-up near C&RT's Regional Office then you must be in Wigan, and must have in fact been to the West of the bust culvert. If you are in fact in Wigan, . . then there's nothing to prevent you from reverting to your original plan to get up onto the Lancaster Canal by Christmas.

Sorry, I'm at the Area office at Rose Grove, how many regional offices do they need! I'd guess there are more CRT vehicles here than are boats moving on the cut. Two of the staff were sporting new, branded livery, hi viz blouson and bobble hats with insignia. Waste of more of my fkn money, how much would it cost to rebrand and kit out all the outdoor staff, would £60k cover it?
In the meantime I am moored to a big wooden planter as the conventional mooring bollards have been removed, making it more difficult to moor up when approaching the water point in a stiff breeze astern. There is enough room to let a 57ft boat access the water point, though I've never seen a boat here on previous visits. I think I did complain, in writing, to CRT about these missing bollards, but if they answered I don't think they specifically addressed the matter. Institutional obfuscation is endemic within the CRT. I started with an open mind, but am now fully paid up cynic when it comes to CRT administration, I refuse to call it management, as there is little evidence of boater representation or involvement, management would require all stakeholder issues to be addressed in a fair and even-handed manner.
