Just watched the video JohnVNot the most exciting presentation. Like most things in life, there's no problem until there is a problem. Would have been better if he'd explained what the problem was ... and if he'd cut it down to about 5 minutes Thanks anyway. Rog

Thanks to Cygnus for bringing it to my attention (inadvertantly I suspect, on another site)
What is there to say about that ? Same old misconceptions, irrational fears and ill-informed claptrap about tides, and how it's so much more difficult to handle or turn boats in a strong tide or current than it is in still waters, and how tidal rivers present greater dangers to noddyboats than non-tidal rivers do, . . particularly in the Winter, . . all echoed in a great many of the half-baked comments on the subject made on here. I got the distinct impression that the drivel in the video commentary, or something very similar from other prats equally anxious to parade their ignorance and stupidity on the internet, was the probable inspiration for some of the mindless garbage so recently posted on here about the supposed need to close the Ribble Link to navigation for a minimum of 6 months out of every year.

I got the distinct impression that the drivel blah blah blah... It's a good thing you weren't with them. Then they really would have been in trouble.

I maybe wrong. Often am.. Ali just asked how do I know it was the RNLI? Pic attached, could be something completely different. pretty certain that is not the RNLI they are flying a Red Ensign whereas the RNLI fly a defaced Red Ensign I don’t know John. Obviously a rescue boat, lock keeper did tell us from where, but can’t recall where that was. Thunderbirds maybe?

From the CRT website:
Boat breakdowns Boat breakdowns are rare but if it does happen there's no need to panic. There are plenty of ways to set you off on your journey again.
You can search our boat services listings to find a nearby boatyard, or contact River Canal Rescue, who'll come out to you - and even bring tea and snacks along in case you're peckish.
If you’re stuck for several days, or worse on a time limited mooring, make sure you contact our Boat Licence Support Team to arrange to stay longer. You may need to tow your boat a short distance to a less popular mooring spot, and if the delay takes longer than you expected, you may need to pay an extended stay charge.
I feel safer already.

If you've just copied my message to pre-empt me deleting it then you don't need to bother because I haven't deleted one yet and I never will, you thieving, lying crook. Now can you tell the imaginary no-win, no-fee libel lawyer to get a wriggle on so we can get the imaginary court case out of the way before I go off cruising again next year?

Obviously a rescue boat, lock keeper did tell us from where, but can’t recall where that was. Thunderbirds maybe? It would have been Humber Rescue, who are based at Hessle, . . the rescue boat station is on Hessle foreshore, virtually under the North end of the bridge. In recent years they've fetched in an increasing number of canalboats that have got into trouble on the Ouse and the Trent, . . usually down to the boats and/or the crews not being up to the job, . . but sometimes complemented by inadequate, or just downright dangerous advice from useless C&RT lock keepers at Keadby, Selby or Naburn.

We loved the Trent as it was different to the Severn or Avon.If you use your common sense, follow advice & info'-it's a great river which I found really enjoyable. We didn't get to do the Ribble link- .Attempt 1-stoppages & not enough water down the arm. .Attempt 2(when we met Andy Berg)-crap weather including gales so our crossing was postponed.Tides then kicked in & it would have been a good few days before the next possible crossing. We didn't fancy hanging around just in case the next crossing didn't happen.Sooo, back up the locks we went.
One day...🤔

But surely the Ribble link is navigable on any day and at any time of day regardless of weather or tidal conditions?
