If a self-appointed expert was to offer actual physical assistance then it might have been genuinely helpful (instead of the usual blowing off on a forum).

I was not necessarily replying to you Rusty, I was just commenting on how comment on either forum is often mixed, but basically, and I'm not getting at you, there seem to be a large number of people who feel the need to comment on anything I post, mostly irrelevant, and often unhelpful. That is the nature of internet forums. ETA. I'm having trouble keeping up with your edits. The best place to fix your boat was always likely to be the nearest one. Ten minutes googling would have found you the nearest boatyard that could do the job. Before the internet came along, it was a case of look in the Nicholson guide and phone around a few of the nearest ones. The nearest boatyard is one I have used, and would never use again, the second nearest is closed. I am not using a boatyard, I am using a marina, which has a good reputation, and recommended WT Narrowboat Services, I have met him, he has met the boat. It's not always about the nearest, it's about the best available, due to circumstances there are not many boatyards available. Its a simple job, hopefully, but the boat needs to come out to access the rudder, if the original builder sends someone along on Monday to fix it, that's fine, but unlikely.

Just a thought, maybe wrong - perhaps part of the reason the stern gear was damaged is due to the lack of a stern fender. If the boat is out of the water it would perhaps be a good idea have the necessary brackets added if they are not already present.

Socks, I know we have had our differences but I have had to speak out on CWDF regarding a post which I feel was cruel and inappropriate. If you donβt feel it was an issue, good and I apologise for getting on my high horse. I still think people ought to think of the consequences before they post. Alan bloody Enfield ππ€ͺππ₯

The advice was useful, and potentially prevented what could have been a nasty outcome.
